I've seen this movie four times now and I'm still impressed every time I haven't seen the Anabelle movie but I hear it's not that great. Conjuring 2 is coming out too. What do you think of these movies? |

Meh to be frank. Easily most overrated horror film of all time. Nothing impressed me, except few small moments in an otherwise dull film. They movie builds-up culminating into a great climax, but it peters out in unremarkable fashion with cliced "mother sentiment" At least a single death/sacrifice would've made the film memorable. The director had visual flair & some good skills to stage key plot-points. But frankly, I feel he's better off directin F&Furious films I'd suggest any horror film addict to skip this & Annabelle. Rather just watch much superior (not tryin to be racist or elitist here) Asean horror flicks as Ju On. They'll wreck ur soul with dark & gritty tone |

I'd argue some are more overrated than this one. |
Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?! Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power. | |

I respect your opinion. Feel free to list them. I mean, there could be films I was oblivious (not taking Scary Movie 3,4 into account of course) & perhaps my view might change You know what ticks me the most. When a film is hyped skyhigh, when the outcome was puke. And its fans still boast about its critical appeal, BO collection etc. Mad Max Fury Road, T4: Age of Extinction, John Carter, Sky Fall, Spectre, Iron Man 3, Thor: Dark World, Force Awakens, the list is endless. Then, there are films that outperformed. Winter Soldier, Dark Knight Rises, Rogue Nation, Edge of Tommorow, Source Code, Non Stop etc Conjuring is a one-time watchable movie at best. My 2 cents |

I think I've seen like half an hour of the American version of The Grudge but that's it. Is the Japanese version that much scarier? Are they that much different?

WAAAY better. Americanized horror remakes are nothing but garbage. Quarantine is the best example. |

Yeah American remakes are typically pretty bad most of the time, they take away the chill of horror and just make it about jumpscares, the gore or the action. Like people being chopped up on it's own is scary versus the slowwww build up with a creepy musical score that keeps an eerie tone to it. Of course the effects make the movies laughable today but I miss the way 70's-80's horror movies like Halloween were done. Halloween can be creepy enough on it's own with just the main theme playing, nothing needs to be happening just shots of an area and it sets the tone. Actually rather than American it's more modern remakes in general that are awful. I can't remember it but I'm pretty sure I liked The Conjuring, it was decent. Better than that pile of garbage series Insidious anyway. Sure I remember it being somewhat creepy. By no means the best horror ever but most horror is pretty s*** these days. Annabelle was pretty bad, it did some things right but other things not. WHY WOULD YOU KEEP THAT f***ING DOLL BURN IT GOD DAMMIT |

Some horror remakes are decent, like the Friday the 13th one, that one was pretty good. NoES, TCM and Halloween, however? Nope, they get s***ty remakes. And somehow two of those get sequels and prequels, WTF. |

The the Halloween remakes...just...lol. I guess they're okay slasher films on their own but as Halloween movies... I've taken more to supernatural stuff in recent years like unsettling possessed dolls, other ghosty crap. Slasher movies have gone down the drain sadly. |
