There isn't much originality anymore. Most of the movies we're getting are just remakes or super hero movies. They're really milking the super hero movies

Anyone else notice this?

They're doing a lot of things from the past. Besides, there's a lot of new original stuff in there, it just doesn't get popular enough because blockbusters are more famous now than they ever were, and the original stuff gets left aside. People also usually go for movies from franchises that they recognize from their childhoods, because the companies know this way a lot of people will go see it.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

Same things that they've always been about. Although holographic technology might one day make cinemas obsolete.

The Academy is very good at celebrating breakout movies with original script. While there has been some controversy this year, they are also highlighting some films from last year that had a great premise.

Movies based on books or real events are really big in Hollywood. The Martian garnished a lot of praise, as did Spotlight. There's also The Big Short, Room and The Revenant which has also done well.

This also seems to be the year of comebacks as Sylvester Stallone has been won a Golden Globe and had earned an Oscar nomination for his role as Rocky Balboa.

I still think there's a lot of originality in Hollywood, and then you get these incredible movies from all over the world which deserves more attention; Son of Saul won a golden globe and is expected to win an oscar too. There's also movies like Theeb, El abrazo de la serpiente and Mustang getting praise for being original.

No, I don't think there's a lack of good movies, you just need to know where to look. I do realize super-hero movies and action flicks get way more attention in the media because it's a huge market for it, but don't feel discouraged by that because like I said there's a lot of great movies out there every year.

Blame blockbusters. Actually, for starters, blame the first one, Jaws.

Even if Spielberg isn't responsible for the age of blockbusters, he started it. And Jaws is a pretty overrated movie anyway.
