Meeting up IRL with people from the internet?

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I've done it once before, with my ex-girlfriend. We met online and I ended up going over to Australia to be with her (tl;dr, I found it hard over there for multiple reasons and ended up coming back home). I spoke to her every day on Skype, webcamming pretty much every day too, so I was sure she was who she said she was (we even introduced our families over Skype). I would personally advise seeing pictures of them, preferably webcamming, before meeting just to be on the safe side. Also, involve your family and friends. Tell them what you're doing, where you're going, just so that if something does go wrong (not saying that it is likely, but definitely possible), there are people who will know.

Also, like Buubs said, the dangers are less so for me, a mid-20s male, than for a mid-teens girl, so you should be extra cautious. I hope that doesn't sound condescending or whatever, it's just that there are more people out there who target young girls and females in general.

My stance on meeting online friends irl in general is that it's a good thing (as long as you're 100% confident they are who they say they are). The way the modern world is, where the internet has connected people from all over the world, it's a much more common way of meeting new people (not to mention online dating). There will always be dangers though, so stay safe. But if everything goes as planned, have an awesome time!

There are actually a few people on this forum I'd be pretty chill with meeting irl. Mostly because of past Skypes and their personality in general.

I've got plans to meet some members from this forum if I go to London next january. I'll be working hard on myself mentally and try to get in better shape physically too before that. That way I'm better prepared for it.

Speaking of previous experiences with it, I have met a few people irl after meeting them online. I think the longest I'd have to travel to meet someone was 2 hours or something, by car. It was a nice meet-up.
I've also spoken to people online that actually lived/lives in the same city as me and we've met irl afterwards. And we've stayed good friends.

tell a parent or a friend who can go with you. even if they aren't with you throughout the whole meeting, it's better to be safe than sorry to have them meet the person and to have them stay in a certain place while you go off to do s*** with whoever it is.

Ah, sorry I didn't mention... Both of my parents know what he and I plan to do together. I am going to be close to adulthood by the time we meet however I know that my younger age can lead me to be a little... Naive (?) so I made sure that my family was on board with it too. I know they'd only say no if they thought he'd hurt me or had concerns about him. And that's perfectly okay. I try to be cautious with everything, especially meeting 'strangers'.
Perhaps I'm not as stupid as I look! ;p

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.
