The Lord of the Dark Posts: 15,358 Group: Member Member #11,968 Joined: January 7, 2015 Gender Male Country Spain	The infinity gauntlet is an awesome plot device to make Thanos even cooler than he already is, even it's a pretty broken power-up, since it's technically capable of anything. You just need to see the kind of s* those gems do and imagine what huge amount of power they have when combined. And I'm not talking about destructive potential, I'm talking about the same kind of amount of superpowers as Pre-Crisis Superman, super strength, super speed, super endurance, etc. I believe the gauntlet was something Thanos made by himself, but the gems were old artifacts protected by several powerful guardians, who Thanos defeated one by one. I can't recall the story very well, only that Thanos kicked a* in every scene.

The IG allows you control over just a single Universe, unlike the HOTU which extends to the whole omniverse.

And a bit on how Thanos lost that time? The thing with the HOTU is that you canonically don't become God, you just absorb a small portion of its power which already makes you über-powerful. The best(and only I believe) example of this is Akhenaten, a normal human pharaoh who became one of Marvel's most powerful entities(more powerful than even Infinity and Eternity, jeez) when he accessed the HOTU after being abducted by aliens(don't ask). There isn't much else to what the HOTU is, it's more of a non-canon thing that just happened once, so info is lacking on that thing. And I doubt we'll see it ever again.
