I'm excited, but I really liked the first Cloverfield movie so I'm probably a little biased. |

I can see the reason for worry but I'd say it's a bit premature. With trailers these days doubling as summaries of the movies they're advertising I'm interested to see some trailers that outright lie to the audience.

This is the first time we've even heard of the film, and no-one would expect them to show the big bad in what's pretty much the announcement trailer. |

How does "stupid as a sequel" mean crap? Imagine the sequel to Godzilla(2014) was just about the soldier guy years later after the Godzilla incident where Godzilla just didn't even appear in the whole movie nor any other monster. How would that not be stupid as a "sequel"? This movie looks like it would work on it's own which means the Cloverfield name is pretty meaningless. Slap anything on to when they finally go out and you have yourself a movie, nuclear wasteland, normal world 'cause it was all an experiment, aliens, whatever. Unless that is just 30 minutes or less of the movie it's a poorly constructed sequel regardless of how good a movie it is on it's own. Another comparison, a Matrix movie where it's just people in the real world doing standard stuff. No story progress, no visits to the Matrix, no sentinels or Agents. Pointless sequel that adds nothing but perhaps a bit of world building. |

But you're still criticising the sequel without having seen the sequel. Like Sousen said, they may be holding off on the monster, assuming people will think "oh, Cloverfield, that monster movie, there's probably gonna be a monster in it". Or maybe you're right and there won't be a monster, but the point being made is that you can't criticise a film you haven't seen. |

That trailer didn't look real to me. All this was the make of a really bad movie or a funny parody. At this point they're better of doing the latter. |

Yes, you can and if in fact you do all the time. Or else you would be compelled to watch every movie to see if it was worth it. If it doesn't pass the eye test, it's a bad movie most of the time. |

I'm sorry you feel that way Sasuke, that sort of thinking is going to stop you watching a lot of great films and shows just because they didn't appeal to you at first glance. |

No, you judge the trailer and it's ability to make you want to watch the movie. |

Which this one failed at when it comes up with "Cloverfield" since it seems barely related to it at all. Imagine a trailer for an Avengers movie where it just shows you random side characters that haven't appeared before and then at the end it comes up with "AVENGERS" and you're just like wut, the f*** does this have to do with Avengers? I have seen plenty s***ty movies that had great trailers but I can't think of one movie I liked that had a s***ty trailer.
Which seems like it has even less monster action, which is generally what people didn't like about the first one. That and the found footage style which they've fixed at least. |

Monster movies don't need a ton of monster action, otherwise they become boring. They need to focus on the humans, because they're clearly more interesting than the monster, most of the time at least. |

Yeah but the first Cloverfield was lacking in monster action almost completely(unless you count the small critters) It'd be like if 2014's Godzilla only featured Godzilla in those news reports we see of him. Not that Cloverfield was a bad movie because of that but it's the main thing people wanted more of. The main questions about it were about the monster, where did it come from? What was it attacking the city for? Was there really just one? What happened next? Not gee I hope we see how a small amount of people deal with the aftermath potentially years later, offering mostly expositional dialogue on what happened rather than us getting to see it. |

2014 needs allot mire of the monster honestly. Actually is focus might have worked if the human characters weren't boring enough to put people to sleep, and either sidelined or killed the only human actors that you cared to watch. How are they gonna deliver the exposition through dialogue exactly? Like who are they explaining stuff to? I get wanting more of the monster but like... I dunno, if the only reason you're watching the movie is for the monster, I don't see why you can't simply plunder YouTube later. |
