Is the weather going crazy because of global warming or some other reason? California has drought, Australia has wild crazy rainy days in summer. http://www.economist.com/news/international/21650552-scientists-are-getting-more-confident-about-attributing-heatwaves-and-droughts-human We spending billions of dollars to decrease it, is it worth all the money we spending? or is it just natural mother nature? |

I think some people seem to be trying to force back the tide. We are not yet advanced enough to even understand the weather, let alone attempt to control it. But no, global warming simply relates to carbon levels increasing in the atmosphere which then creates a blanket that traps the heat on Earth instead of going into space. It might explain droughts but it doesn't explain storms. You are thinking of climate change. Now the debate is not about whether there is any climate change since 99% of experts agree there is. Instead there is some speculation about how much we are contributing to it. My personal opinion is that even with all our polluting industries, we contribute to it less than cattle. Certainly less than volcanoes. But we do cause harm and we could do a lot more to reduce our effect. That all being said, this would probably happen whether we were here or not. Possibly just a bit more gradually. You can see similar things happening all throughout history. They reckon the Earth's rotated its axis a bunch of times which really caused some problems for the eco system. |

Well I mean, it does; heat is literally energy. Weather systems are more volatile when exposed to more heat. Also, water vapor is itself a greenhouse gas, so if more is evaporating then this makes things worse as well. Cattle is an industry. Cattle wouldn't be doing this to the world without our help. We can moan that cow farts are such a colossal contribution but that's shucking the guilt off of ourselves. Realistically we should be limiting the meat industries as a way to cut back on our emissions, not blaming the cows. I hear this sort of sentiment thrown around a lot and I'm always confused by it. How many other unbelievably dangerous threats to we look at, shrug, and comment on how it would have happened anyway? ![]() This is the (infamous) 'hockey stick' graph that shows how temperatures have varied about each year, and you can see how quickly it's changing from the exact period that we started mass industrialisation. This isn't some far off catastrophe, this is a proper disaster. |
