What will cause human extinction?

Obviously one day mother nature will give us the middle finger and send us to heaven, but how will she do it?
A meteor, the Sun turning into a red giant or something like that, overpopulation, World War III, aliens?

What is it going to be, in your opinion?
Or do you think that mankind will never die and always stand strong?

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

Jaco's extinction bomb.

I think our "fall" will be to the hands of aliens.

Nuclear holocaust. By either USA-Russia or North Korea-USA-Russia

I think humanity will wreck itself either way. Thats human nature anyway

My Dear Melancholy,

Couldn't we just go through evolution and despite the way we set up the world, we change out names to sound upgraded? Thus once all the old school downgraded people die out it'll "extinct" the human race. We're gonna die anyways if a big space rock hits Earth(This happen twice or three times already right?)or whenever that Sun blows up. Unless we somehow space colonization by then.

Would't be shocked if we died of a race due to something very very lame. Like golf ball diease or Earth produce some new toxin

Hmm... I don't really think a nuclear war or climate change alone could make humans go extinct. Those events would drastically change our numbers but we'd never all die out.
The final blow would be dealt by an asteroid or lack of food sources.

If I'm being incredibly optimistic, the end of the Universe would cause humans to go extinct.

In a much more likely sense though, I'd say either an Asteroid or human error.

Far from humanity wrecking itself though, that's just warfare. Now you can argue that maybe conflict is in human nature but humanity as a whole working against its own self-interests? Not really. Everyone in those wars had their reasons for doing what they did. Some of those reasons were horrible of course but it wasn't some sort of mindless destruction. I'd also argue that we've come a long way since those days too. We haven't had a conflict on the scale of WWII since then despite some pretty heavy international tensions that have arisen since then. And while warfare will always be horrid, at the very least the development of humanitarian law has made the conduct in war slightly more humane.

I find this whole "humans are awful" rhetoric to be hyperbolic to be honest. Do people do a lot of horrible s***? Yes, undoubtedly. But we also do a lot of great things and the proportion of people that do truly evil things is pretty small in the context of the sheer number of people there are. I'd be very surprised if we were to blame for our own demise.

You my friend live in an idealistic world. Either way maybe a virus, or meteorite, or vulcano/yellowstone/ would make it.

But the virus has better possibility

Either a supernova that happens to be within 30 lightyears of us or binary neutron stars colliding with each other. Both give off unfathomable amounts of energy which could rip the planet apart if close enough. In theory aliens could exterminate us too. If they have the technology to reach Earth then they could probably take us out from orbit.

Apart from that I see no other plausible way we would go extinct.

Yellowstone? Maybe. But huge volcanoes have erupted before when we had virtually no technology and we still pulled through. Volcanoes that impacted the planet far more than any nuclear war would.

Disease? Too many isolated communities.

War? No way. Nuclear war wouldn't affect enough people to make us extinct. As with disease, there are too many isolated communities who would barely notice it. Also the effect on the planet from nuclear fallout is far less impactful than people often realise. Granted they were relatively small yields but Hiroshima and Nagasaki are perfectly fine now. As are all the places where nuclear weapons have been tested over the years.

Isn't it obvious? VR results in no one reproducing.

For real though, while there are a bunch of chances we may die and such, I feel more likely is humanity simply evolving into something that can't be called homosapien, simply having a birthrate dwindle until there aren't enough humans to sip us from all dying out eventually. We've proven fairly resilient as a species overall. So yeah, I'd say death by old age, eventually we reach the stars and all that, intermingle with aliens that can't breed with us, and perhaps down the line enough of that happens that humanity... Just quietly dies out. Perhaps with a different species taking our place, or maybe not.

Admittedly that sounds pretty fantastical note that I've written it down, but I just don't see humanity dying out, maybe regressing as a civilization, but not dying out. The sun will swallow Earth before humanity dies out.

We will have established space colonies long before the sun dies.

I think that we will control our own evolution using technology. Genetics studies should have reached a point by then where this is possible.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I think a supervolcano would do it easily really, it is far different from a regular one the ash cloud would cover the whole planet and choke almost everyone to death.

I'm pretty sure some people would survive but...how would they live? All the plant life would be dead, doubtful many animals would be alive to eat.

Unless we have some huge self sustaining vaults hidden away anything wiping out the surface ought to do it.

As for evolving, I doubt it. People hate change too much if people started getting smarter, stronger and faster we'd probably kill them out of fear of being replaced.
Their only hope would be if they were essentially mutants from X-Men with the power to fight back, seems doubtful :p

Failing those I guess if we expand out in to space we might underestimate how dangerous it is.

If we don't change our climate ways, that'll be the end of us. Global warming is a huge issue and needs to be solved. It will be a very very long time from now, but if the temperature gradually starts to rise, oceans will start to boil and it will be unbearable for us to live here.
