I'm starting like J.J. Abrams movies. Overall great movie, solid performances by the new cast and love Han's evolution.

I keep trying to imagine how this film might have been perceived had we never had Star Wars before. What if this was the first in the franchise? Would people still care about it? Or would it be viewed as a forgettable fantasy flick?

I think I just realised what was missing from this film.

It isn't a very memorable film full stop. There's not many moments I can look back on like I can with all the other films. Even the prequels had more stand out parts. It's like what I was saying in my thread about it, if this came out without any other Star Wars films existing before, would anyone even care or remember it in six months?

I have to say, that beginning with the original score sent chills down my spine, the nostalgia and hype were real.

And f*** Snoke. And Kylo. WORST. SITH. EVER.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

I like Kylo. I think he's cool and multi dimensional. He's clearly meant to be someone who is still young and naive. Also completely torn between light and dark. I honestly thought he was the third best character in the film.

Snoke needs to be developed a lot. What we have of him so far is not good enough for a Star Wars villain. Even the prequels had good villains. Had we got Hugo Weaving cast instead of Andy Serkis then he probably would have been a lot better. Although visually he still sucks.

Not enough development to make me like him. He was literally a Vader wannabe who fails at doing his job as a Sith.

Well, I completely loved it.

Also I moved some posts from Prof Gohan's topic in to here, too many details for a topic that specifically didn't want discussion and spoilers in it.

You're right.

But I don't think the point of the film was to be refreshing, but a return to the old Star Wars style, it probably wanted to bring nostalgia to those that watched the originals as kids. And besides, let's be honest, the Star Wars aren't really known for their improvement as the movies go on(except for the prequels were quality went down, then down again and finally up), the movies never really do anything new besides create new cool characters that aren't that original either, it felt like Episode VII was trying to do a lot of the things they do in the novels and comics, I definetely got a Darth Revan vibe when I saw Kylo.

At least I am happy I could take it seriously.

Kylo Ren is fine. He's clearly a very inexperienced Sith, and will grow as the films go on.

Anyway, I greatly enjoyed the film. The cast was fantastic, the film was epic, funny, everything I could have hoped for, and more.

I never clicked about either of those characters. It was only when I got home and checked the character names that I realised who they were.

Oscar Issac looks like he was yanked straight from the 1970s. Which is awesome.

That Ackbar-looking guy should've said "IT'S A TRAP!" at some point. It would've been the best moment of the film.
