Nah, Piccolo planned it from the start.

Piccolo: Sweet f***ing Kami in my head, is this boring. Oh f*** me, take me away Freeza! *jumps in front of a blast meant for Gohan* Ahhhhh...sweet freedom! Don't wish me back until Super becomes good.

Why not just use the image showing the actual wound?

I don't know about you, but that looks like it should have destroyed his heart(and one of his lungs). Not to mention there's also the line in the Babidi Saga where he says so long as his head's intact, he's okay. He says nothing about his heart

Well Namekians have 3 hearts if I'm not mistaken, and not necessarily in the same place a human would have one.

But why does the hole matter? As you said, Piccolo has survived worse than this. But he died with NO holes in the Saiyan saga from Nappa's blast. Maybe it isn't the size of the hole, but the damage done. Maybe Freeza hurt Piccolo so much he had no energy left to regenerate, and thus died.

So what do you know, another inconsistency for Super! Piccolo is killed by a random shot to the heart despite the fact that he has regenerated from much worse. You know...like being turned to stone and having his entire body shattered. Now it might one thing if Piccolo took a real beating that really put a damper on his ki and stamina which his regeneration is part of.

But really, not to get way off subject of this episode but even if Piccolo could not heal. Why is this random shot the one that just equals "instant death" Freeza might as well pulled out a wand and cast the killing curse on him.

Every other time Piccolo was still able to live on. He gets shot in the chest, one that even seems like the heart by Freeza and he still survives. He gets utterly blasted by Nappa after going through a huge fight and while he dies here, he still survives long enough to give a last minute speech to Gohan. He gets absolutely trounced by Cell, neck snapped, huge gaping hole blown through him, tossed into the sea and then several minutes later Goku finally arrives and he's still kicking. I report back to the first part of my post. Piccolo is shattered into pieces and still manages to regenerate.

But not here. No, that one shot was just too much for Piccolo to handle. That was the mother of all death beams. That was the Avada Kedavra of death beams. Instant death. No regeneration or Senzus (which these f***ers had!) is going to handle that serious wound.

Now then, someone post a .Gif of Vegeta clapping so I can end my post here sarcastically.

Freeza's death beam also blew Dende up, damaging his head which, according to Boo Saga Piccolo is imperative to a Namekian staying alive. Here it makes no sense, Piccolo got smashed to s*** and grew himself back just fine after Dabra's spit wore off.

This Death Beam was shot by someone stronger than the entirety of the Buu saga.

That's debatable but even then, Piccolo got smashed to f***ing pieces. Literally to shreds, probably the worst damage he or any of the other Z fighters has gotten short of completely getting blown up and regenerated just fine.

Hadn't he eaten a Senzu not moments prior due to TaGinyu ripping off his arm?

When Piccolo died from Nappa's blast, he was pre-fusion with Nail or Kami. I'm guessing his regen improved from that. Furthermore, Nappa's blast actually hit him over all his body, the Death Beam caused some minor wounds all over his body but for the most part all it did was make a hole. Piccolo also wasn't tired when Freeza shot him.

In retrospect, I think Dragon Ball had some pretty generic choreography - even at its peak during the original series the fighting shown isn't exactly what I'd call exceptional or complex. That still doesn't excuse what was shown in this episode. I don't usually watch Super, but after having looked over some of the scenes in #24, I realised how low quality the artwork and animation is. How anyone could try and justify this as being a worthy successor to Goku and Frieza's original fight is beyond me.

But why? You're making problems for Super here by making guessing that create the problem. Can't it just be that if a Namekian takes too much damage at once it's impossible to regenerate because they lose all their Ki from pain, or whatever? Piccolo didn't even need to regenerate from Nappa's blast, it just...killed him with no external injuries that we could see.

And gee, this episode is taking a while to come out subbed...not even a summary yet. Holding off on my thoughts until I can see it subbed.

This episode barely even has anything noteworthy. it's just an unimportant episode.
