I haven't truly enjoyed a story arc since Cell and even then I'm willing to admit that it's not my favourite. I used to appreciate the Buu arc, but that was before I had any grasping of the narrative inconsistencies, mishandling of characters, the excessive unused plot points which never went anywhere, and self-deprecating subtext which Toriyama decided to inject for whatever reason. Rather than look to the greatest moments of DB for inspiration, it appears that Super is merely following in Buu's footsteps which is a direction that I have little favour of. As far as I'm concerned, the only hope of an upturn for Super at the moment is the tournament arc. But as I said in previous topics, my expectations are being kept to a minimum because I have little doubt that Toriyama and the writers will continue with the same formulaic style of writing.

Here's a question. Does anyone like Super as a whole? I mean are there Super apologists out there that can actually defend the show? Granted it's only been 1 season, but still...
I like Super even though I'll be the first to admit it has its flaws. But overall, I have enjoyed the show and I honestly look forward to watching it every week.

I'm not sure what it is, but Super doesn't feel like a "real" show, or a "real" story. It feels more like a sequence of events that happen, and have only tangential connection between them. It's so flat and unengaging, even if there's stuff on screen that should be exciting, none of it registers to me.

There's something about DB Super that just feels really weary, really tired; it's not just that the series as a whole is phoning it in, it's like there's no life or humanity behind what I'm seeing on screen.
I love building PCs. If you have any questions about it feel free to ask. I can help you with almost any kind of PC you'd want to build.

Dragon Ball as a series need to just end or if you want to continue it, you should continue it in a way that really introduced new concepts and characters. Start fresh instead of just pushing the same thing over and over again. Dragon Ball has become like the Saw franchise, where we're not getting anything new or good.

Dragon Ball could've ended around the Cell Arc or even Freeza and had a nice closure, even more so for the former. It would've shown how Goku's adventures have ultimately lead to a successor in Gohan who would protect the Earth in his place. It would've given closure to PIccolo whom finally gets to return to Kami. It would've given closure to Vegeta who learns that's there's more to life than being the absolute strongest in the world. It would've finished up Gohan's character from a timid child to a strong warrior who's had to sacrifice a lot to get where he is. It would've given closure to Goku's character who leaves the Earth to protection by his son while he stays in the afterlife. We'd have gotten closure with Trunks who manages to protect his future.

There's so much that would more or less have made the series end well and just concluded on a high note. But instead, it has to be milked even more until it has become repetitive, boring and unlikable.

Sums up 80% of all the complaining basically.

As for Super not including new concepts - come on, what about the several universes? The Super Dragon Balls? I'd say it's pretty good vertical realm-of-importance progression. GT only gave us horizontal progression with both the story and the characters - things never reached universal importance (well, apart from the final Genki Dama which was bulls*** anyway). In that regard Super does introduce new concepts. Well, the anime itself still hasn't, but we already know it from the manga. If the tournament is done well, it's gonna be some really highly liked DB content.

Never liked the show, never will. The problem for me is the clownish feeling that is in the air. It reminds me nothing of the epic DBZ series that I fell in love with some years ago.

If you don't like Goku or Vegeta, then U6 isn't going to be anything special. Toei/Toriyama might throw Piccolo a bone, but all we're going to get is more ''Goku and Vegeta are so strong/cool'' moments, plus even more Saiyans which will pretty much sign the rest of the Z-Senshi's death sentence.

It isn't just the fact that Super's been retelling BoG/FnF, it's as Tin Man said; it's been retelling them poorly. If they can do this badly when they've got decent source material, then the writing itself is incredibly bad. That bad writing is probably going to carry over to the U6 arc.
