If you are single: Could you go on with the rest of your life solo without ever the need of a partner? If you have a significant other, Could you go on with the rest of life without your partner? For people who have have been on both ends of the spectrum, Was being with a partner THAT much better than being single? What are your views in this regard? |

To be honest it was a pain in the a***. Always having to do things I didn't really want to do. But that's just because I haven't met the right person. I'm sure if I met the right woman then I couldn't be without them. |

Being married was kinda nice, getting divorced could have been a b***, but I had a damn good lawyer. Honestly at my age with my situation, stability is a bit more important to me ya know? I don't care about drinking all might and then making love until all hours of the morning. Got bills, class, a small child. I figure if we're getting bills paid, taking two vacations a year and do it once every week to 10 days, we're doing just fine and I'm happy. But that's just me, I think having a baby really tweets your perception of reality. |

This is the life I have chosen and that's the way I will live it. I am single, not looking and not wanting anything. Can see myself like this forever. |

Both have positives and negatives. When I was in a relationship, I missed aspects of being single, and vice versa. However, I think that the companionship, closeness, affection etc that you get in a relationship (well, a good one) definitely make up for the drawbacks having a partner brings (having to compromise when you might not want to, having to sacrifice the freedom single life brings i.e. being able to do what suits you). Single life is all well and good, and I can definitely see why some people would opt for that for the rest of their life, and I definitely feel there are times in someone's life where they need to be single and take time to get to know themselves and figure s*** out, but for me, I really do miss the companionship/closeness/affection that comes with relationships. That being said, I'm in one of those phases where a relationship isn't really something I'm looking for at the moment. |

"Then you've got the chance to do better next time." "Next time?" "Course. Doing better next time. That's what life is." | |

No, I couldnt do that. Even now after almost two years since I was in a relationship, I feel terribly lonely. Being single sucks. And before you ask why I dont do anything about it, Well I have already found the woman, but we didnt make it. Guess it will be difficult to get to know another woman who match me that perfectly. |

As someone who has been single their entire life, and are at bliss with the life they lead, what would you say I'm "missing" or oblivious to as opposed to having a significant other? |

There are positives to both. As a single person you have all the independence in the world, do whatever or whoever you want have a job or don't and don't have to worry about kids if you never had any previously and you have much more time for your friends. In a relationship you're restricted with the above but you also have a companion and the right companion could make a huge difference to your life and improve it in many ways despite restrictions. With me I could live either way but my life would definitely not thrive without my girlfriend or a girlfriend in general. While I do feel like I've missed out on a lot, especially sexually since unless we have a threesome or something if we stick together then I'll have only experienced sex with one person, feels like kind of a bummer at times. And having my girlfriend often makes me feel kind of...trapped or maybe even locked out of my old life, sometimes I just want to be a wasteful bastard and sit in one position playing games all day no matter how unhealthy that is However my life would never change or it would at least take years for it to alone, my girlfriend gives me motivation to do things like learn to drive and start looking in to getting a job. So while I could live either way and be fine emotionally having a significant other significantly improves my lifestyle. "Love is two broken people supporting each other" is a saying that completely applies to this situation without one another we'd just be singular broken people wasting away so while there are people who don't need to be in a relationship there are those that do for sure. |

People's search for the perfect partner is futile. It's when they realize that they are good with someone who doesn't "complete" them they truly have found the one for them. Don't look for perfection, look for what you like. |
