$73 shipped for the RAM. According to that chart, that's a major f***ing difference! ![]() $200 back from reselling? So, a total of $500 would be spent. How many years will this setup last me? |

I would expect around 3 or 4, and if something groundbreaking comes out in the GPU space, you could replace just that (spend another $250 or so a year or two down the line) and your CPU/RAM will handle it fine. |

I can say with almost absolute certainty that yes you will. You might actually have the most powerful gaming rig on DBZF after that. ![]() The one bit of advice I'd give you for Fallout 4 is keeping the "godrays" setting (under "advanced graphics") on low, as it looks the same as ultra (better maybe), but isn't a performance suck. You know what? Screw this. I don't need to drop $700 anymore! My computer as it is right now plays Fallout 3 in the best graphics possible and get this: it doesn't even strain the components! I'm excited, but hesitant to pull the trigger on those parts. |

Yeah, that is a lot of money to spend just for one game. Don't upgrade unless you're not satisfied with what you already have. People (like me) would have a lot more money if they just took that advice.

Oh wow! How long ago did you buy these parts? how have they held up? Is there any game out there that you can't run at 60 fps? |

Well, I play at 2560x1440 (3.7 million pixels) compared to 1920x1080 (2 million pixels), so getting 60 FPS can be pretty difficult in some titles (with decent settings). But at 1080p and adjusting settings, as long as it's a decent port, (i.e. not Fallout 4 or Ubisoft stuff) then yes, 60 FPS is very easy. At 1440p, I easily get 60 FPS (at Ultra/High settings) in Battlefront and Mad Max, for example, as those are really nice ports. I have trouble with Dragon Age: Inquisition and the Witcher 3, however. Will I have trouble with the Witcher 3? That's one game that I'm going to want to play as well. |

With your current build, or the one you're thinking about buying? If it's the latter, I'd expect 60 almost all the time at 1080p. Maybe a few drops here and there, but the Witcher 3 isn't the greatest port (it's good, but not stellar), so there's not much you can do about those edge cases. Overall, it'll look and play great. I get around 60 FPS at 1440p (high settings) and GTX 970 > R9 290, especially for the Witcher.![]() Expect performance similar to the 980. Average above 60, minimums slightly below. Just make sure to turn off Hairworks, Hairworks is a performance suck to nth degree, and almost no system can run it. If it's your current build, I wouldn't suggest even trying. You'd probably have to do 720p/900p low to get around 30 FPS. What you have now just isn't as fast as the current gen consoles, and they have lots of drops below 30. I'd suggest sticking to previous gen titles on that machine, but it should handle most of those just fine. Edited by FutureProtagonist, Nov 21 2015, 10:25 PM.

I should've specified. With the new parts. I'm going to try any more games on my current setup as there is no point. What is Hairworks? |

Hairworks is a middleware solution provided by NVIDIA that provides more realistic hair simulation, you can also see it in Far Cry 4. It competes with AMD's TressFX/Pure Hair technology which is in use in Rise of the Tomb Raider, as well as Tomb Raider (2013) on PC and Tomb Raider: Definitive edition. It will also be appearing in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.![]() As you can see from that chart and from that comparison, the difference just isn't worth it. The only reply I have for that is this: lol? Is that even necessary? The loss in fps is way too substantial to even want to use something like that!
