I didn't like Windows 10 at first but once it got patched a bit more I preferred it to seven. It seems much more stable.

Download and run this tool: http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed

It helps to analyze the crash dump that windows generates after these kind of things.

You may also want to look at the reliability monitor:

http://www.howtogeek.com/166911/reliability-monitor-is-the-best-windows-troubleshooting-tool-you-arent-using/

Search "reliability" in the start menu.

Here are the results:

On Thu 12/3/2015 10:14:50 PM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\memory.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: Unknown (0xFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF)
Bugcheck code: 0xA (0xFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF, 0x2, 0x1, 0xFFFFF80002F08412)
Error: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Bug check description: This indicates that Microsoft Windows or a kernel-mode driver accessed paged memory at DISPATCH_LEVEL or above.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error.
Google query: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Reliability doesn't show anything for today, but it shows all of the bulls*** that occurred yesterday.

Well, that's not particularly helpful, but at least it doesn't appear to be a hardware issue. Try the reliability monitor next and see if we can get something more.

Really? Interesting. Let me do some more research.

This article looks promising: http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-1653275/fix-irql-equal-error-windows.html
-Be aware that it is not recommended to defrag an SSD, so skip that step if you watched the video.

Just follow the steps and see if anything is found. If nothing works, try testing the RAM with memtest.

Apart from that, reinstall pretty much any driver you can think of. Any one of them might be causing the issue.

If you haven't gotten the drivers for your new board, start with those: http://www.msi.com/product/motherboard/support/Z97-PC-MATE.html#down-driver&Win7%2064

I'd recommend installing all of them down to (not including) "others drivers" with the description "Microsoft Hotfix installation is required for Intel Management Engine Driver to be installed successfully.".

You may also want "system and chipset drivers"

Bahaha! There is, however, a problem....

My monitors are so old that quite a bit of tearing occurs, but I'm not going to dish out money on a new 120HZ monitor unless an unreal deal comes along.

The graphics, the texture, the seamless 60 FPS. What a new world I have been introduced to! :p

Fallout 4 has vsync enabled by default, I thought, so that should prevent tearing.

You can force vsync in the NVIDIA control panel, or download this tool: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/102/?

Which I would recommend doing anyway because it has a lot of nice options.

FP, what games are you playing on PC at the moment?

What games have you played in the past that have proven to display the absolute best graphics possible to date? I want to experience them too! :p

Well, there's always Crysis 3. That's a classic graphics game, and you can generally find it very cheap. It's a decently enjoyable linear shooter, too.
Dying Light is a good looking open world game, and it's quite a lot of fun as well.
Star Wars Battlefront looks and runs beautifully, but the critical reception has been pretty mixed.
I'm liking the look of Just Cause 3, you know, when it works (not often). I'd buy that a few months down the line when a few patches have come out. It's really an amazing looking and playing game, but it's got really big issues right now, especially for AMD users like me.
Batman: Arkham Knight looks incredible, but it's a poor performer on PC, even after lots of patching and work.
Mad Max doesn't look that great, (it can look good sometimes) but its framerate is fantastic. Shocking that it uses the same engine as Just Cause 3.
Project Cars got a lot of praise for its visuals, but there's a lot of controversy surrounding the game. Your setup would do fine with it, though.

Pelador's list is good, but Dark Souls II doesn't belong on there.

You mentioned overclocking before. Your Xeon doesn't overclock, but the GTX 900 series is famous for its overclocking capability.

MSI Afterburner (http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/msi-afterburner-beta-download.html) is the preferred overclocking tool for GPUs. It's also a very good general purpose monitoring solution.

Here's a sample of how some GTX 970s overclock (note the real clock frequencies will be higher thanks to GPU boost): https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/EVGA/GTX_970_SC_ACX_Cooler/28.html

That's a nice list of games that I'm going to be working on! I will mess around with the overclocking when I get home later today. I've never done it before. Do you manually set what Hz you want it to run at or is it auto? What settings/specs do you recommend in order to squeeze more power out of the GPU, but not overwork it?
