Well, that's a start I suppose. Windows Experience Index failing sucks, though.

Maybe you could try this and see if it works: http://winaero.com/comment.php?comment.news.220

I'm not exactly sure what it is, but it at least emulates the characteristics of Windows Experience Index. I ran it myself, so it's safe. It's a very lightweight application. Doesn't even need to be installed.

How strange. Well, at this point, I can only start recommending general fixes. Reset the CMOS by pulling out the motherboard battery and leaving it out for 5 minutes or so, or you can try flashing the bios.

Download it here (first option): http://www.msi.com/product/motherboard/support/Z97-PC-Mate.html#support_download
Here's a guide on how to do it. As long as you use the USB method, there shouldn't be any real risk of harming the computer.: http://www.howtogeek.com/196916/how-to-check-your-bios-version-and-update-it/

It does say improved VGA compatibility for the latest one, so there might be something to it.

You could try grabbing some miscellaneous drivers for your board too: http://www.msi.com/product/motherboard/support/Z97-PC-Mate.html#down-driver&Win7%2064

Some people report issues when driver control panels are enhancing graphical settings. Right click the desktop to open the NVIDIA control panel, and ensure that all settings under 3d application settings say "use application settings" rather than override or enhance.

You could also potentially test your power supply. Running prime95 and heaven should've ruled that out, but here's what I suggest. Open your case, unplug the two video card power connectors, plug your old PSU into the wall and use its video card power connectors. Just have it sitting there, and both PSUs plugged in at once, this is perfectly fine, just make sure the power switch is on for both power supplies. You could also repeat this for motherboard and CPU connectors if necessary.

I looked through the entire Nvidia control panel and I didn't see anything along the lines of "use application settings."

I'm beat for the day. The rest will have to wait until tomorrow. I've f***ed around so much and have lost count as to how many times I've restarted. :p

We'll continue on from here tomorrow.

Sounds like a good idea.

Anyway, here's a screenshot for reference:

You want to make sure that everything is "application controlled" or "use 3d application setting".

I've run low on ideas for this, if you can't resolve it with anything I've recommended, make an account on Tom's Hardware or Anandtech (or some other tech site) and post a help thread there, or on both sites.

Alright, however, your picture isn't showing up. Could you please try posting it again or just link me to it?

I'll post a thread for you (on another forum), and see if I can find any other ideas.

Alright, I just checked all of the settings and they were already labeled as "application controlled" or "use 3d application setting".

-STOP EVERYTHING!!!!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@

I don't know what the f*** happened or what I did, but I tried the Experience Index test one more time and it went through successfully..... On a scale of 1.0 to 7.9, I got a 7.7!!!!!

We're done!! Mission f***ing complete!!!! :p :p :p

Nice! Try re-enabling DWM and see what happens.

You could also try re-running that other version I posted (http://winaero.com/comment.php?comment.news.220), as those scores go up to 9.9.

Here's mine. Can you beat or match it? :p

BTW, have you installed the new RAM? If you have, you should go to the bios and ensure that it's running at DDR3-2400. Some of them have to be set manually.

I should get rid of this crappy Sandisk Ultra Plus 120GB. I meant to buy a Sandisk Extreme II. Didn't realize I had the wrong thing until months after I bought it.

Do I have to re-enable DWM? Is it necessary?

Looks like we have ourselves a little tie!

I installed the RAM 10 minutes after I posted that picture. I actually went into the BIOS and had to set it from 1600 to 2400 just before I did the assessment. ^_^

Tomorrow, we will talk about overclocking possibilities!

As you can see by that timestamp, it's pretty late here. We'll talk tomorrow. Thanks for all of the help so far! Have a great night, FP! ^_^

FP, are you scores better because you're overclocked? Should I expect to receive better scores if I overclock as well?

I think it's just because you're on Windows 7, so you're still limited to 7.9. Overclocking wouldnt give me that seemingly huge advantage, I think it just the method of evaluating the scores.

WEI in Windows 8 introduced higher scores, and I think that tool still uses the OS in some way. It's not meant to be used with Windows 7 because that has an easily accessible WEI. It's designed for 8 and 10.

WEI is not a reliable bench anyway. Heaven is good for testing GPUs. For CPUs, I'm liking the benchmark in the latest version of CPU-Z and Cinebench is always good.

For both 3Dmark Firestrike is great, but it's a $20 piece of software.

I hate the interface of W8 and 10. We have it at work on two computers, but mine is still W7. Is it worth upgrading to 8+?

Windows 8 is a dead-end, but having Windows 10 will be important at some point because it supports D3D12, while 7/8 do not. Not to mention that W7 will become legacy at some point.

If you can get W10 free, I'd recommend doing so (your choice, of course), I used the upgrade process from a W7 machine and it was seamless, but if you can't, sticking with W7 is fine for now, but I feel that W10 will eventually become mandatory for gamers (could be a while), just like you eventually needed 7/8 if you had Vista.
