Thank you. I already see an improved boot speed from the moment I turn the computer on to the point that it's logged in. Same SSD, slightly different settings that the MB offers! It's soooooo nice! :p

I have most of the updates done. i have to do the Windows now and I think I'll be done. ^_^

-Any idea why it's stating that my usable RAM is only 3.5 GB out of 16?

No motherf***ing way.... Did I f*** up?!?!?!?!? I have 32 bit.....

Do I have to redo everything all over again in 64 bit?!?!?!

Damn that sucks. But yeah, just have to reinstall, no way to upgrade. Good thing you caught it somewhat early.

There is no 32 options.... there is only 86 and 64... I clicked on 86 both times. The new install was 32 again... I clicked on 64 this time. If it doesn't work then there is a problem with the ISO file....

Annoyance beyond belief... False a*** s*** file... 86 = 32. 64 = 64. Ffs.... We're good now. Blah!

:'(

What a hassle....

x86 actually refers to the instruction set (basically the list of commands that the CPU can execute on a hardware level) that desktop CPUs use, and that Windows is compatible with. Strictly speaking, it would be more appropriate for Microsoft to refer to the 32-bit version as x86-32, and the 64-bit version as x86-64, but the number of bits is implicit in the 32-bit case, I suppose. At least that's the logic.

But yeah, that's something that most consumers wouldn't know. They should make it clearer. If there's a choice between x86 and x64, always go for x64.

I looked online and tried to do what was suggested, but I still get this error. It has to do with Direct X and whatever other graphical files I need. The Windows update didn't fully complete and there are a few files that won't install. It tells me that it's reverting back on step 3. Also, when I go to do the System Rating, it always fails on one of the graphic parts. My GPU drivers are all up to date. I even downloaded and used the Intel drivers utility tool.

Do some other graphics tests, play a game or run a benchmark or something. It could be the PSU struggling under load, given that you mentioned you already had a problem with it. If that PSU were working properly it would be fine, but it seems like it might be faulty. It may be worth it to run the same test with your other power supply. It is actually pretty easy to switch those out. EVGA B-stock does come with a 1 year warranty, so if the PSU is a problem, they'll replace it, same with the GPU.

What do you see when experience index fails? An error message, a blue screen, the computer shuts off, display driver stops responding, etc?

You might also try updating your BIOS or running the system file checker tool, which comes with windows.

As for the Windows update, that is a strange problem, and there's a computer in my house that does the same thing. It's not the best fix, but you could download the updates manually, or you could just switch off Windows update.

When the index fails, it just shows a message and cancels the test.
How do I update the BIOS firmware exactly?
I did the system file check thing. Is that the rf/scannow?

How do I install the updates manually?

How do I update or redownload Direct X and whatnot?

Updating the BIOS is a bit iffy, so that should only be as a last resort. I've never actually done it myself.

And yes, that is the system file checker.

Microsoft recommends this:
Quote:

If you have automatic updates turned on but some updates fail, try scanning for updates manually. This can sometimes fix the problem.
That can be done through Windows Update on the system tray, I believe.

DirectX can be found here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36805

When I download that, it gives me the following message:

The update is not applicable to your computer.

That probably just means that what you've got is up to date.

Some suggest deleting your old Windows Experience files if it's failing. You can find them here:

C:\Windows\Performance\WinSat\DataStore

In the DataStore folder, delete all of the .xml files. Now try to rerun the assessment.

You might access the log file as well:

C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\winsat.log

It should contain additional information that might shed some light on why it's failing.
