The Lord of the Dark

The Human Centipede movies aren't scary. The first one is weird, the second one makes me feel uncomfortable and the third one is half comedic. They don't really count as horror as a whole. The second one gets the closest since the premise is quite unsettling, but it's also very uncreative because it's a repeat of the first one.

I haven't seen a REALLY scary movie since I was a kid. It's really hard to make me scared when my childhood was all about horror movies from 70s and 80s. The era of horror movies is dead, they can't make spooky stuff anymore. The only thing we need are more monster/slasher movies, those are actually fun when done right.

Has anyone here seen Redline? It's a pretty badass anime movie, I highly reccomend it.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Yeah the horror genre seems to be done.

There's the occasional unexpected twist but you pretty much know what's going to happen.
"Don't go off the path"
So they're going to go off the path and bad s*** is going to happen then, alright.

A horror movie with smart characters could be the revolution we need. Smart characters that fight back against the horrors they face without being handed random tools to do so, that would be kind of cool if the horror atmosphere was maintained and it didn't turn in to Army of Darkness spoofery.

Are there any decent monster movies now? New ones that is. They're about all that interest me.

How is that revolutionary? Tons of movies did that and it's clearly a silly concept, not ment for horror movies.
Ever seen Monster Squad?

And smart characters in horror movies is nothing new, it's not the classics' fault that nowadays every horror movie is filled with dumbasses. There's been several kaiju movies, as far as monster movies go, one I recall was really trying to rip off Godzilla, especially in design. There was also Razorback, which looked awesome, and several other shark and zombie movies. There's waaay too many of those.

Also, gotta mention that they're trying to create a cinematic universe for the classic Universal monsters which is awesome.

That's what I'm saying though if it was done and still scary it could be awesome, most of the time people effectively fight back is in horror comedies like Dead Snow.

Terror without an obvious lack of usefulness would be interesting instead of all but the nerd not knowing how to do anything right.

Dog Soldiers kind of done it I guess. Guessing the sequel for that is never going to happen.

They need to bring werewolves back. And vampires, cool vampires like Dracula in Van Helsing.

Yeah I'm interested in that, Dracula Untold was...alright. I'd like to see where it goes but damn Dracula is OP.
I'm hoping it will be somewhat like the Underworld series but actually satisfying.

This should continue to be a thing.

Necropost activate!

Might as well instead of making topics for small things.

For instance, I've just learned of the movie God Particle...

Are we really getting another Cloverfield movie not about the damn monster!?
I really want the monster...but 10 Cloverfield Lane was awesome so I'm not actually mad. Guess each movie will try to be different in some way while still being set within the same universe.

Wonder if it will be similar to and/or as good as Life? That movie was pretty decent.
Obviously Alien will never be beaten for space station monster goodness but Life was still a great movie.

What decent movie news is there lately?

From what I heard (still haven't totally watched it yet), Alien was merely a cheap knock off, straight from the fact that both the Alien and Life trailers had the same damn music. And from what I've been told, the other classic sci-fi horror monster, The Thing (John Carpenter's, not the original) should sue this "Calvin" aswell.

Man, what has Marvel done... Now EVERYONE wants to do their own cinematic universe. Shyamalan with Split, Cloverfield with the other movie that I didn't watch because it didn't have a monster... The DCEU are trying the hardest (kind of) while having it super rushed and they're still behind... It's a damn shame.

It's a very similar movie yeah but does a few things differently, it focuses a lot more on the actual creature whereas in Alien it's a background menace killing people from the shadows, which is obviously more scary.

Also they want to do a sequel for life so...it may also have an cinematic universe.

I really like the idea of cinematic universes but so many seem to want to have them just to have them/it worked for Marvel.

Why do we have this going on when most series can't even consistently make good sequels, such as the Terminator series.

I bet they'll try it next.

Most series seem to fail with the number 3.

Terminator 1-2: Really good, Terminator 3? Blegh.
Alien & Aliens? AWESOME, Alien^3? It wasn't bad, but it was a pretty big f*** you to the ones who liked the first, even if it gave a proper ending to the series (hahahahahah)
RoboCop 1-2: Pretty good, RoboCop 3? Silly as heck.
Godfather 1-2: Highly acclaimed, Godfather 3? ...The opposite.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I was actually thinking of making a topic like this a little while back, didn't know there already was one.

I also enjoyed Life. I mean, you can look into most films and say 'well, they copied that from Film X and this idea from Film Y'. It's about making the film it's own thing, which I feel like Life did by focusing on the alien life form itself.

Yeah, but to the point where they had the same music for each trailer? Ripping off is one thing, but that is ridiculous.

Can you link to me where they have the same music? I can't find trailers for both films that share the same music.

Extremely similar soundtracks with the same high pitched "WOAAAAH" sirens, only that Alien pulled it off first, and far better.

Not to say Alien is completely original, it steals some basic ideas from 50s movies from the same genre, but still, Alien is a respected icon, while Life just seems like a cheap imitator, one that is a lot cheaper than usual, but I can't be too harsh on it considering every sci-fi concept was already exhausted by the 50s, while things like Star Wars and Alien brought it back to the big screen(with other cheap imitators, of course), the same thing happened with Jurassic Park in how dinosaur movies weren't anything spectacular anymore, up until that one arrived.

Honestly, it seems more like a homage than straight copying, especially considering the makeup of the trailer is different and the Life trailer also has the voiceover. Also, saying Alien did it better is subjective. I personally prefer Life's use of the high pitch scream-type things.

The generic Inception sounds ruined it. It's like every trailer nowadays feels the need to add that stupid noise.

Yeah, Inception changed trailers forever

Having just watched Alien Covenant I appreciate Life a bit more.

Xenomorphs are just way too omnipotent without much explanation, it's cool how Life explained exactly why Calvin was such a threat and it's apparent how dangerous it is even when it's barely as big as a hand.

I also liked how smart people were in the movie compared to the Alien movies where people are like "Oh what's this weird egg thing, let's just touch it with no scientific protocols what so ever, what could possibly go wr-"
