Let's see what they do with the crows.

Why the crows specifically?

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

Because the way they were represented back in the day were... well, you know.

Compared to other Disney productions at the time (Song of the South, anyone?), the crows were pretty okay. I've seen people on both sides, saying that they were racist while others saying they weren't. Personally, I thought they were cool. After all, they're the ones that further the plot by teaching Dumbo how to fly (in the last third of the movie, I might add).

If they're more or less the same as before, I doubt anyone will be offended. If they're portrayed following the stereotypes of today, then some people might find them offensive.

I'm not sure Burton will give the animals speaking roles, though. It's very possible, but I feel like we would've heard one of them speak and I don't remember anything, other than the humans.

Why wouldn't he give them speaking roles? Both Disney Jungle Books movies have animal speaking, same with The Lion King that's coming up.

Like I said, I didn't see any animals speaking in the trailer. Did Cinderella's mice speak in the remake?

I haven't seen the Cindarella movie, but I suppose you could be right. To be fair, this is based around humans being cruel to circus animals.

Precisely.

The original Dumbo movie focused more on the circus than Dumbo himself.

Not sure how Mowgli will be, but the recent The Jungle Book movie did have other humans than Mowgli. Yet the animals did talk.

I know The Lion King won't have any humans, most likely, so that's a bit different.

The original TLK movie took place before mankind began to bloom, so assuming they follow the same timeline, yes, no humans.

As for WB's Mowgli... Wait, before I go any further, the original Jungle Book movie from Disney also had another human (who talked) other than Mowgli, and the animals spoke anyway, same goes for the sequel where we see the whole village Mowgi went to, so why bring that up? It's not the same as Dumbo, where the main character was a baby elephant that didn't speak, in The Jungle Book, it takes place in the jungle, so naturally the animals speak.

In the book the animals communicate with Mowgli as well because he learns their tongue, the language of the beasts, and since the upcoming Mowgli movie is meant to finally be a good and faithful adaptation, that's likely the route they're going as well, that the animals tongue Mowgli how to speak like them.

They spoke in the older Disney movies because they were cartoon movies. Everybody tends to talk in cartoons unless they are specifically explained why they don't.

What's the difference, though? It's still Disney, their animals are rarely silent.

But apparently in this new Dumbo movie none of the animals will talk.

Is that something Burton or someone else said?
