Considering the fact Kami separated himself from the evil in his heart, is it possible that he could ride the Kinto'un? Surely his heart isn't as pure as Goku's, but it should be good enough I would think.

Toriyama's definition of "purity" is not what most people believe it is as it is not actually a reference to morality of character. He stated this in an interview from 2009 (I think).

Goku's "purity" comes from the way he chooses to live his life. He lives for fighting alone, and everything that he does in his everyday life is for that endeavor of constantly improving himself physically. Vegeta's the same way, or at least he became that way after he began residing on Earth, which may explain how he came to reach Super Saiyan at that point in time.
I assume that his purity comes from him dedicating everything he's got to best Goku. When we first see him training with Kid Trunks, we see that even his rivalry with Goku had even extended to him trying to make his own son stronger than Goku's son of the same general age.

Toriyama admitted that Goku himself isn't really pure good in a moral sense, as he doesn't believe anyone can be.
So it's even safe to say that Vegeta could actually ride the kintoun as well, but this is purely speculative, of course.

So for your question about Kami, I do believe that Kami is pure and can ride the Kintoun. His soul motivation is protecting the Earth and its people; making his character pure.

This definition of purity from Toriyama seems to make sense considering that after Roshi began becoming distracted by the opposite sex, he lost what purity he had as his motivation before that seemed to be improving his skill as a martial artist.
