Which series surpass their creators?

"I am the bone of my sword."

What are some of the anime series that you believe surpass their original counterparts, be they manga or otherwise.

For me.

1.) Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 and Brotherhood.

While the FMA manga is amazing, Brotherhood practically took everything that was great about the manga and made it 10x better. While not a perfect adaptation, the sheer amount of effort in voice acting, animation, fluidity and story telling makes it a much watch for anyone who was a fan of the manga. The 2003 series is possibly even better, while not as great on the scale of animation and fluidity (being over 7 years older) it's great usage of characters, story and plot (while still remaining faithful to the original material at hand) gives it a wide variety to go by.

I would in many cases say that in terms of story telling and characters, the 2003 series goes above and beyond both the manga and Brotherhood.

2.) Hellsing Ultimate OVA 1-7.

Hellsing all in all isn't all that great in terms of story, but ain't watching Hellsing for the story, you're watching because its epic, blood filled action and the Ultimate series take the work of Kouta Hirano and mades it so much better. Although not without issues, both Satellite and especially Madhouse for OVA 5-7 truly brought the world of Hellsing to life, with amazing voice acting and splendid visuals.

Unfortunately with the change to a new studio for OVA 8-10, one of which I had been painfully awaiting for during the huge gap in delay between OVA 7 and OVA 8, I feel that the quality of the series actually went down and by that point, truly did enjoy the works of the manga compared to the OVA series. It's a shame because the last volumes of Hellsing are arguably the best ones.

3.) Bleach.

Bleach is flawed, heavily so. But I think it can be said that compared to what Tite Kubo brought out, the anime's edition was definitely a step improvement. For one, we got backgrounds so we're not looking at a blank page the whole time. The animation on certain points can be epic, no doubt causing your heart to pump during matches like Ichigo vs Byakuya or Grimmjow. But perhaps best of all, the music of Shiro Sagisu which truly brought the series to life. In short, the anime took nothing (almost literally what with lack of backgrounds) and turned into at least something.

1. Naruto Shippuden

One word: Fillerfest

It brought out WAY MOAR than anything its creator (it disgusts me to even type his name) could ever work

Tons of unlikable leads, garbage pacing, dull fights, flashbacks & oh yeah cliched stereotypical Nakama-tachi BS

2. Bleach

If Naruto was fillerfest, Bleach was gore, brutally, unhibited bloodbaths...well of fillers

The Anime really worked over-time bringing Tite Kubo's 200+ stereotypical garbage leads with such panache that its hard to not to like them

Kurousaki-kun bimbo Inou-san gets most, extensive character developmemt
Ichigo Kurousaki, by far da most complex shounen hero puts on Masks every 3 minutes & then changes the Mask often with Shiro Shagisu's violen playing for umpteenth number of time in the background

At least Kubo's sharp artsyle was distinct & gave a special feel during Arrancar fights

Anime made every Goddamn "butterflies" from Aizen to Ulquira to Grimjow as life-less as possible with haphazard editing & choices of color

If there's an Oscar Award for garbage-filled VA anime, Bleach is da champ.

"Ore wa Numba wa Miro...00. Kore da Ore No HONTOU no Numba da!!! SHINEE!!!!" kinda ROFL garbage lines & voice acting belongs only in Bleach

3. One-Piece

Animation, music, design: sucked a*** worser than Oda's manga version

Even with such upgraded budget, Luffy still looks dangerously disastrous giving Mr.Popo a tough fight when it comes to visually compelling lead

The only real candidate which fits is HunterHunter 2011

MadHouse simplified, yet Togashi's free-wheeling spirit was intact which was evident throughout da show.

Episode 111 alone would put Togashi's manga to shame.

Its freakin beautiful

Definitely agreed on Bleach. I think Studio Pierrot was more invested in the series than Kubo, at least in some (most?) sections. As mentioned above, their work with Aizen's transformation and other (potentially) important moments really was inspired.

Beyond the somewhat distracting censorship, their take on Mazoku ;) Ichigo vs Ulquiorra was fantastic, despite the scene itself kind of sucking. Same can be said for Yamamoto's fights during FKT or Rukia vs Aaroniero and others.

The topic is "which series surpass their creators" not "complain about series you don't like yet again." You need to stop the completely unnecessary bashing of these series in threads regardless of the topic. This goes out for anyone else that does the same. There's a time and a place and this certainly isn't it. Consider this a verbal warning, real warns are getting handed out for flaming if people continue to do this.

OT: I'd agree on Hellsing but that might be about it. I don't know, I guess I always have a bias to the source material, almost as if it feels disrespectful to the creator to say someone adapting their work is better? It's not and plenty of people are happy to say when an adaption surpasses their work but it's just kind of my natural reaction to it.

Ignored my post about HXH2011 & BAM! Verbal-warn

All 3 series I bashed surpassed their creators, in a bad way

And I gave a sarcastical remarks, considering HXH 2011 was the only real candidate among ocean of mediocre shounen troops

Unnecessary bashing? Curious

Naruto & Bleach (anime version) both surpassed their creators plagued by fillers, poor editing, choices of color, below-par VA, atrocious design & music

I mentioned all these in my post, in a sense, the Anime did more harm than good to its canon counterpart.

Yet again, HXH is the only show compared to these, surpassed its creator & THAT was in a right way

Forum is a place to discuss & have fun right? I didnt abuse any user or replied to anyone bordering on vulgarity

Just posted my slightly twisted sense of "surpassing" & seems like ur ticked by my post. Whatever.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

HxH and Bleach are prime examples.

Overall I'd give the Bleach manga a *sigh* out of 10 but the anime is often a good watch, animations is decent, OST is pretty cool, voice actors on point for the most part(nobody cares about Ichigo not even his creator) and BACKGROUNDS

Anyone who reads Bleach knows how lazy Kubo is, with pretty much every panel just being white with maybe a couple of lines to suggest there's a wall next to characters, no decent shading or anything. The anime at least had designed landscapes.
They weren't special or anything but they at least made the effort...unlike Kubo.

HxH 2011 took everything good about the series and amplified it really, again anyone who has read it knows how s*** the art can be at times. Madhouse animated it near perfectly.
The OST is superb, voice actors are again on point and the series isn't bogged down with ooooooooooooodles of filler, there's barely any noticable filler at all compared to the likes of Shippuden where saying "Half of it is filler" isn't even far from the truth at this point.

It's only failing is THAT IT ENDED
SCREW YOU TOGASHI
I WILL SCREW YOU IF YOU CONTINUE IT PROPERLY

Can't think of any other examples where I can say the whole anime is better but some parts of One Piece are excellent, when it's not filler and doesn't have horrible pacing, 1 manga chapter stretched out per episode kinda horrible it has epic moments like this:

The manga panels in comparison are fairly underwhelming and don't have the Ace tribute to drive home the feel train.
A lot of the time in the One Piece manga it feels like too much s*** is going on and sometimes the anime spaces that out real nicely...other times...less so.
