Why is it such a particularly common thing? Three examples off the top of my head
"Bru Eyzo White Doragon"-Yugioh
"Finar Frash"-DBZ
....This from Hellsing

Would an English speaker be any better having to read Kanji?

Obviously not, but it's not quite as common. You don't generally see people saying stuff like "Aoimoku no haku ryū" for the name of something.

Japan just seems to have a real fascination with the English language, at least in anime. Kind of similar for German as well, but not as common. Unfortunately this doesn't translate to good English :p

It just sounds cool. It's like the way we keep certain Japanese words and names in translation. Like Naruto for example. Rasengan has a translation "Spiraling Sphere." But Rasengan sounds fierce, cool, exotic and marketable.

My Dear Melancholy,

Some words or phrases just sound awesome in English. And vice versa. Would you rather kamehameha or Turtle destruction wave?

Yeah, but the pronunciation of Kamehameha doesn't exactly vary too much between languages.

This isn't really a case of Engrish so much as weird lyrics, but the Aldnoah Zero songs are a mess of German, Japanese, Chinese, and English being thrown around without any logic

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I don't know why it'd be common but I think it sounds pretty cool, it's either cool or great for comedic effect.

Cool being like this: http://www.animelyrics.com/anime/bleach/lifeislikeaboat.htm

That's the first ending song for the Bleach anime, which is pretty much 50/50 between English and Japanese and actually flows pretty damn well.

And then for comedic effect it works well too:

(I promise it's not on purpose the same VA done those...)

I think it's pretty cool how they seem to like our language even though they have a fairly xenophobic culture. It's nice that even though there's bad blood between both sides(at least Japan and the US anyway) we can both enjoy each others entertainment and connect through that.

"Pirates are evil? The Marines are righteous? These terms have always changed throughout the course of history! Kids who have never seen peace and kids who have never seen war have different values! Those who stand at the top determine what's wrong and what's right! This very place is neutral ground! Justice will prevail, you say? But of course it will! Whoever wins this war becomes justice"

Foreign is cool. They're also bad at English because they don't learn it with our syllables, they learn it with theirs.

I was under the impression that the Japanese were super xenophobic

Oh man, you'd be surprised lazer.

I f***ing love this idiotic and badly-translated dub. It's the worst. But it's also the best.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

Fair enough.

Any particular reason why? I know that Germany also gets lots of love

Uh I'm not sure why exactly. Yeah they are fond of Germany too. To be fair though, from my experience, they seem pretty fond of every first world country that isn't an Asian one.
