Does any one else resent DBZ Kai for changing the characters voices in the new movies? In particular Vegeta and Piccolo, who's voices are no where near as unique as they were originally. Gohans lacks the individuality it had as well. i could be just nitpicking but it really takes away from the enjoyment for me.

Thala na Gethu!

What's so unique abt Vegeta & Piccolo's voice?

Both were voiced by Sabat, which always gives me the impression of a guy whose throat got stucked by ice-cubes

Gohan's raspy voice has always been annoying.

Guess Kai corrected some stuffs, but stil meh

Vegetas was perfectly suited to his angry character, and piccolo's was epically deep. Suited their badass characters very well.

In both the old dubs Sabat felt like he was aping the Ocean people right up until the Buu Saga which is the only one where the voice acting sounded natural. I like Nadonly for Goku because she makes him sound like a dumb kid but for Gohan she's really wrong. The new voice actress makes him sound believable for his age and smarter than his dad was at that point in his life. The only time she falters for me is when it comes to trying to sound threatening.

I liked vegeta and piccolo before kai. They sounded more raspy. They don't sound bad though now that I got used to it. Sounds more natural now

Frieza's voice I got used to and I like it just as much if not more than the original

Teen(CG) gohan's new voice I will never like as much as the original

I didn't like Gohan's new voice either. The new voice-actor sounds too generic, and obvious like "look at me I'm a 4 year old child".

Sabat's voices for Vegeta and Piccolo have simply developed over the years. Nowadays they both sound much more natural and less forced to me.

I can't see Gohan and Bulma's recasting as anything but good. Nadolny's goofy boy-voice is fitting enough for kid Goku, but has always sounded wrong to me for the younger and meeker kid Gohan. Likewise, Tiffany Vollmer's voice for Bulma has always sounded too exaggerated and shrill, while Monica Rial sounds much more natural.

And of course, there's Chris Ayres being brought in as the new English voice of Freeza. Easily the best thing to happen to English-language Dragon Ball since FUNi started doing dual-language releases.

I also think that the original series VO for those characters sounds a lot more unique and enjoyable, while the Kai versions are like simplified, more normal voices. I read Chris Sabat respond to some criticism somewhere regarding his Kai Vegeta voice, saying that he had gotten older and his voice had matured, which sounded to me like maybe he was suggesting that the classic Vegeta voice is too difficult for him to do now.

The original Buu Saga Sabat voices for Vegeta and Piccolo are great, tho, filled with character.

I actually prefer Z Kid Gohan over Kai Kid Gohan personally though I do agree that Kai Freeza >>> Z Freeza.

As for the other cast changes, I didn't really care that much. Kai for the most part was an improvement over Z though I liked Trunks, Vegeta, and Perfect Cell's voices in the Z dub better than the Kai dub.

I actually think Cell suffered the most in Kai. He used to have such a cool, cocky sounding voice. But it just feels flat and monotone in Kai.

For new voices, I've grown to like Gohan. I think the old voice for okay for Cell Games Gohan, but not 5 year old Gohan. Freeza, as almost everyone agrees, is the best change in English dub kai. On the other hand I really don't like #18's new voice.

Goku started off terribly in Z. But I feel liek he got better in Cell saga and reached his peak in the Boo saga, which he's merely maintained in Kai. A great way to compare old Goku and new Goku is the Kaioken x20 scene. It's just leagues better in Kai, especially the screaming (that said, the ssj3 scream is a great way to prove that even Z Goku became good).
