Hello fellow Anime fans my name is Eliah and I am new to DBZF, I am glad to be a part of you all  Well lets get to the point of this discussion shall we. I have recently happen to come across a Top 10 Mature Anime list made by Watchmojo on youtube, while opening introductions they have stated that the list only contains anime with gore and nudity while anime like death note are excluded because it does not have them and hence is not "MATURE" but I disagree with them since an anime can be still mature without gore and nudity such as Nana and Koi Kaze. What do you guys think is and is not Mature. |

Generally most Seinen are mature. I am for the most part a Seinen reader, but I can't speak for others who are here... They like a lot of Shonen. Anyway, stuff like Naruto and Bleach are the epitome of childishness... Especially Bleach. Noobs to Anime only think One Piece is more childish in comparison because it looks stupid to them, when in reality it tackles more mature themes like torture and slavery quite well. Naruto never really matures in the series. He wants to become Hokage but never takes the necessary steps in questioning his political beliefs, not to mention he literally has a god complex. Ichigo goes on a god damn goose chase every arc. He also has dumb philosophical beliefs based on nothing yet he actually has no goals in his story. He even has no development throughout the series, and instead has stupid mood swings. So yeah... Just my two cents. Edited by Big Green The Yoshi, Oct 11 2015, 03:59 PM.

Depends what you mean, mature in the way they mean is a nice way of saying stuff that kiss couldn't watch. If we take mature as being mature then plenty of stuff can hit it, even kids shows like Avatar. Though personally for me I think Fate/Zero, and I think most other Urobuchi works are very mature, as some dark examples. |

I haven't seen that WatchMojo list,but, I agree that in the context of anime,Mature, definitely only includes Nudity and Gore. Animes which don't include nudity and gore definitely come under the category of Non-Mature,like shounen or seinen etc. |

Most Sienen would be qualify as mature. The only Shounen I can think of that would remotely qualify as mature is HxH. |

Nah, Hunter may be psychological to an extent, and I can see some appeal, but it is stupidly overrated... Even moreso than FMA, and to a point where it makes One Piece fanboys blush. I can name a handful of Shonen better than it, yet it is often called the best Shonen mainly because of Togashism... Don't believe me? In Japan, Togashi is tied with Oda as the country's favorite Mangaka, despite being a lazy scumbag. |

One Piece isn't that mature... You mentioned Naruto doesn't really mature in Naruto...well for one thing he does anyway but when the hell does Luffy mature in One Piece? He changed a bit after Ace but by no means did he become mature, likening him to a functional adult would be a joke. Are you going to praise Luffy for never maturing just because it's One Piece but hate on Naruto for the same reason? 'cause that's just stupid. One Piece has the occasional mature theme but they're merely an aspect of an arc it doesn't really delve deep in to an issue the racism around fishmen is about it really. HxH gets pretty damn dark when Gon is seeking revenge of Kite or the greed aspect of people asking for wishes from Something. It's fairly dark anyway, though not quite level with a typical Seinen like I hear Higurashi is supposed to be fairly mental, though more in a psychological and gore way. |

Well Clannad After Story, Nana, Koi Kaze, Death Note and Code Geass dont have Gore or Nudity but they are Faaaaaaaaaaar mature than something like AoT/SNK which has Gore. |

Welcome to DBZF, and I will say that I too just veiwed that exact video. As for the question, I think it really depends on what audience the anime in question is geared towards. |

They have racism, slavery, genocide, wars... you name it. on topic: Mature animes could be Hentai/Ecchi or Gore(corpse party is an example). |

And an island where everyone is a crossdresser and there's a power that lets a character turn people in to male or female at will and Buggy  It's not really that mature it just has the occasional mature detail thrown in. With that Naruto is also mature because it deals with war, deep psychological issues, torture, essentially slavery as well and child soldiers. Virtually every anime, even Gintama has it's mature moments but I wouldn't use a handful of them to say one qualifies as an all round mature series really. At one point in Gintama there's a woman who had her heel tendons cut so she could never walk again and was forced to be a prostitute or sex slave for a villain of an arc. Yet of course Gintama is 99% comedy

Just FYI mature doesn't equal or mean a deep compelling story. Naruto is mature for a Shonen but isn't that deep or compelling. I'm not trying to throw shade but I'm sure everyone understand that you love One Piece but do you really feel the need to mention it in every anime related thread? |

Generally I find "mature" is a nice way of saying "it's got tits and gore," like Final Destination or something.
