Crazy Awesome Legend

There is currently some ruckus over this in parts of London. It's also been happening here in Plymouth over the past decade and there was even recently an episode of South Park about it. Question is, is it a good thing?

My thoughts on the matter are mixed. Whilst I do agree that revitalising a run down area is a nice idea, if poorly planned then it can lead to issues. For instance if we just let foreign oligarchs and billionaires buy up all the land and property then a lot of it will remain mostly empty. This means that instead of increased revenue to surrounding areas, all you get are a bunch of hollowed out buildings. The poorer parts of town don't see any of the money because no one is there in the rich parts to distribute it.

There's another issue in that it creates class divides. People get jealous and people get snooty. The poor can't afford to spend in the area and this means only a certain class of people use the facilities. Not only does this create a class gap but there is now a wealth gap too.

However the idea can work if the wealthier parts support the poorer parts. It can encourage more investment across the whole city and this of course leads to general wage increases. In theory. If it doesn't want to suck the life out of a city it needs to be done slowly, carefully, and thoughtfully
