What it Gohan's power dropped not because of his injury, but because he had stopped being enraged? Notice that the only time CG SSJ2 Gohan was not angry was when Cell's blast injured him. At that exact same time, Gohan remarks he has lost half of his power. Now, I can see one counterargument: Gohan wasn't angry when Goku died or when he wanted to make Cell suffer. My response to this: (1) The sadness Gohan felt when his dad died fueled his anger when Cell reappeared, and it distracted him from noticing his power level at that time. (2) When Gohan wanted to make Cell suffer, he was reveling in his anger. Just because anger is typically negative, it does not mean it can't be positive. What do you guys think?

There's also the fact that Toriyama says the right state of mind effects Ki output. Gohan had lost all motivation and pretty much given up, so he probably got a lot back when Goku encouraged him.
