The UK used to have a big empire. This wasn't really a good thing but it made the nation powerful. Could the country ever be that powerful again but without the imperialist ideologies that it had back then? In my opinion it can be. If we developed a competitive manufacturing industry, expanded the arts, fixed our banking system, improved education and the legal/judiciary system then I think we could be well on our way. We don't need a giant empire to rule the world. We just need to have the loudest voice. Now with the USA on the decline I think it's a very good time to get to work on our new golden age. |

The British was once considered the greatest empire in the modern age, actually if we talk about land, they had over 49.21 million km, larger than the Mongolians. For Britain to become a super power again, they have to led the world in science and breakthroughs, better policy making and infrastructure for education learning and continue having a strong navy and air and land teams. |

I don't think military might is as important these days. Influence and culture can spread without having a giant army. I was watching a select committee meeting on BBC parliament the other day about the science budget and they were saying that we are doing better than America in terms of achievements however we were in danger of lagging behind other European nations and Asia if we got too complacent. So it seems we have the science figured out at least. When it comes to education and healthcare then we are not in the same boat. We might be better than the USA but so are a lot of other countries. This is an area I think we really need to improve and we can actually do that by giving schools and hospitals more autonomy from the government. |

In terms of business we definitely could be, although it'd be a slow progression. On the stuff we used to be well known for, most likely not but in fairness at least that keeps us in the back of other countries minds, when it comes to war and so on. |
