Should polticians encourage more art and poetry?

Crazy Awesome Legend

I was just learning about Chinese history and how the Tang Dynasty really pushed art, dance, music and poetry into the mainstream. Now perhaps it is just a coincidence but it seems like every time a nation does this, the arts encourage better science, positive social changes and a general sense of happiness across the empires. Compare it with the grey and drab Soviet Union of the 20th century. No music, no poetry, just cold and empty. When you invest in culture then you are investing in the well being of your nation. It gives everything a boost for some reason.

The question is whether it's the job of politicians to encourage this, schools, popular figures or actually everyone.

It's something I definitely want to put a lot of money into when I am prime minister.

State sponsored media? I'm not sure how well that'd fly in America but the gov can usually spare equipment for certain directors making movies that portray them in a positive light. So in a way they already support it, but I think outright monetary support of the arts wouldn't hurt at all, just the question is what works and artists they support exactly.

I don't think it's the job of politicians, i think family has a bigger role than the elected official.
