After Future Trunks destroyed Freeza, could King Cold have talked his way out of being next? do you think Trunks is anywhere near as compassionate as Goku(who would likely had let him leave). If King Cold would have been heartbroken at the sudden death of his son and simply tried to leave a broken man, would Trunks allow him to? |

Hmm, probably not. Cold could still terrorize other worlds, and I'm sure Trunks is aware of that, unlike Goku. |

He could've saved himself if he transformed into his 3rd or 4th form. |
Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?! Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power. | |

Trunks could see whether he is sincere or not. If he is, he might let him. If he isn't, he still gets one-shotted. |

Trunks doesn't strike me as being too merciful with his enemies, no matter how much they plead for their lives. I'm not sure how Cold could have escaped that situation. He could get down on his knees with tears rolling from his eyes and I doubt it would phase Trunks. |

Trunks had to grow up in a horrible apocalyptic wasteland ruled by demented cyborgs. If you present a threat to the future, he is going to take you out, no question. |

Trunks' world was shattered by merciless beings. It was ingrained in him from a very early age that bad guys are bad guys all the way through. In a way, it was because of his androids that he learned not to mess around in fights and not give the enemies a chance to escape. |

Goku's mindset as a fighter is completely different from Trunks's. Goku probably would've let him live, while Trunks wouldn't. Trunks's mindset is about preventing catastrophes and protecting people, while Goku's is more about simply having strong opponents to fight. The two mindsets result in completely different outcomes for opponents. Toriyama once stated that he didn't like the way that the anime portrayed Goku to be a righteous hero. He went on to state that Goku's motivation has always been about finding strong guys to fight, and that the simple fact that he protects Earth as a result of that was more of a fluke than a conscious decision of Goku's. So in other words, Goku's an a**hole who fights because he likes it, not really because he wants to save the Earth. However, to say that he doesn't want to save the Earth would also be wrong; just that it's not his main motivation for fighting. So, in short, Goku would've let him live. Trunks wouldn't (and didn't). |

This. Also, I've always been of the opinion that Cold was suppressed at least to some degree. So in the other sense of "could he have saved himself" I do believe that he could have physically escaped Trunks had it occurred to him to do so. I don't believe for a moment that he could pull out a win in a fight, or that he has any other forms up his sleeve, as there is absolutely no canonical evidence to support that. Whether or not you agree, it's simply not logical to suggest that Trunks would allow a confirmed planet buster with huge intergalactic influence to escape. Only Goku would let compassion overrule his head to that extent. |

I doubt even Goku would allow Cold to escape after what happened with Freeza. |

According to Trunks, IIRC, the Goku in his timeline killed them both to save Earth.
