This is a bit of an old story, but I feel it's an issue that should be discussed. Kim Davis, the Kentucky County clerk who refuses to issue marriage certificates to gay couples has been the poster child for most Republican Candidates and conservatives on the issue of Gay Marriage. In a nutshell, our country's Supreme Court just ruled a couple months ago that it was unconstitutional for states to not allow gays to get married; as that's been an issue for years for gay couples not being recognized as married in some states, but married in others. This ruling made gay marriage legal in all 50 states. As disallowing gay marriage is usually considered a religious issue, the Supreme Court justified their ruling by citing the First Amendment, which states that people can practice their religion as they chose, but the government (in this case, Kim Davis) can't force religious rhetoric upon others. Most republicans (and Kim Davis supporters) state this ruling as unconstitutional, saying that it violates the part of the First Amendment which states that people can practice as they chose, but in truth, the Constitution actually disallows someone using government to be nothing more than a religious bigot. People like Ted Cruz (R) have gone out of their way to state that this ruling is unconstitutional, and have done anything in their power to try to get an amendment made, that makes marriage exclusive to one man, one woman. But it'll never pass. What's your opinion on it? Edited by Ketchup Revenge, Sep 20 2015, 01:24 PM.

I'm not surprised in the slightest that she's become the poster child for Republicans. I wish I could be surprised at their attempts to deny homosexuals the right to marry and, in a better world, I could be. However, it's happened in so many instances that it's just 'another day'. The fact that she's being praised by a lot of people is downright disgraceful. The fact that somebody who should know that their profession means that they can't refuse to issue marriage certificates to homosexual couples on religious grounds was actually doing this is disgusting. The fact that they're trying to label the Supreme Court ruling as 'unconstitutional' is hysterical, and I honestly had to sit down for a few minutes because I was laughing so hard. Also nice to see that Ted Cruz is desperately trying to stay relevant, though he should know that appealing to the extremely religious crowd will hamper his chances of getting support from elsewhere come election time. |

They can all carry on living in their tiny bubbles for all I care because most other people have moved on and thankfully majority rules in our democracies. |

It's pretty simple. You're freedom stops when you are denying other people their freedom. Idiots gonna idiot. That's life. Best to just ignore them. |

Much like anything, there's always the fools and idiots who try to keep things back and deny progression. Yet that's the wonderful thing about progression...it progresses. Redundancy of term without, things like traditionalism can't survive, it will ultimately fall to the passage of time because people want new stuff and as our generations continue, as new generations come forth, we've become not only smarter but far, far more accepting of things then in the past. You know, the same thing happened during things like when segregation became illegal and there were people who were demanding that blacks and whites be separate and of course, to this day they're the fools of the country and they'll always be remembered as that who denied progression. They'll come off as nothing more than bitter bigots and its the exact same thing that will happen to the ones here. |

I think it's high time religion simply stopped being a factor in things like this. It's just silly. Didn't she say something like "I have a right to follow my beliefs as I choose" But gay people don't have a right to live how they choose? Okay then! Also hasn't she been divorced 3 times? She's hardly devout then is she. There was another woman that had the same issue or a similar one, I forget her name. She didn't want to do something against her beliefs, so she quit the job and found another where she would be able to follow her beliefs. Same religion, same issue but she handled it in a non childish way and didn't get arrested or anything. Stupid and archaic practices need to be removed. People need to stop pretending religion actually matters to anything outside of religion. Of course people would go nuts though "I got my rights!" SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE |

She was wrong to do what she did. The people lobbying for an amendment to the constitution in favour of what she did are wrong. People who are against same-sex marriage are wrong. Lots of wrong going on in this scenario. |

"Then you've got the chance to do better next time." "Next time?" "Course. Doing better next time. That's what life is." | |
