Guys, feminism is not a minority movement. How many times does this have to be mentioned?

Feminism fights for equality, It's simply called feminism because in the early days women were less fortunate in every way imaginable.

It's like the black power movement. Look further than the name, don't focus on the crazies
But the problem is, it exists even though women are preferred to men.

I don't know about the black power, but I think it ended when Black people got their rights.

"women are preferred to men"
What do you mean by that? Are you saying women have more rights than men? I can guarantee that they don't.

Also, black power didn't end. They might have their rights on paper, but cops are still shooting warning shots in their backs every year, racism is still a thing in the world.

Feminism aims to end inequalities for men too. Feminism is the belief that Women should be equal to Men. That includes areas where women are treated better than men as well, such as court sentences and child custody.

Honestly the idea that women have more rights than men over all is... Silly. It's much better now and if you think it's all good now it would be I suppose, but there is still a cultural movement, it's not just legal lobbying. Feminism is at worst an outdated term for a very relevant concept. Equality for all genders, including transgender for example.

Also, feminism fits aim for equality in armed forces for example, so women are able to be drafted in times of need and sent to the same hot zones as men. Not something you'd want personally, but it's for equality, a goal of feminism.

The law is less punishing to them, there's actually subreddit for that.

I don't know if this will hold water, but let's say both a woman and a man testified in a court about a crime.
They will be more likely to believe the woman than the man.

Well, racism is kind of directed to all races(Black people, white people, asians people) but yeah, black peoples are more prone to racism.

Feminism then seeks to correct that and give the men and women equal sentences, even if that means women now get longer sentences. It's sill relevant. It's not simply women's rights it's equality period. Even when this results in stuff women would not like personally, like getting drafted, or getting a sentence that is longer than it would have been when they weren't equal.

Let's say a man and a woman testified in court about a crime in Morocco. What do you think would happen? Just a random example.

The sexism of the Courts is that sentences can be more lenient for Women;

http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20110220105210/rds.homeoffice.gov.uk/rds/pdfs/hors170.pdf

My earlier claim of Women being favoured when it comes to child custody is a little more up-in-the-air, but I've heard nothing about Women being favoured when it comes to testimony in general.

It's fine.
it should be noted however feminism is very international, and despite the name is not focused solely on women.
The social justice warriors that 4chan likes to make fun of so often are most of the time uninterested in equality, and thus are not feminists despite proclaiming to be.

There needs to be some proper polling done to establish what feminists stand for. I mean just because Republicanism stands for representative democracy, doesn't mean Republicans represent the thoughts of the people.

The best poll I could find is this:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/16/feminism-poll_n_3094917.html

But it doesn't really give a perspective of what they stand for. Although it's really interesting, I thought a lot more people identified as feminists. I guess the trend is dying down.

Well it has to be deep to be deep discussion. Plus I just get irked when people use feminists to refer to tumblr crazies. Just don't like that term getting hijacked.

It's mostly just this section I think, helps to balance out open Mic night I suppose. :p

In any case, I doubt Feman is that sizable a portion of feminism in Muslim or French communities.

Yeah i get what you mean, but instead of addressing my points, it's the example that bugs.I will even admit that's it's not a good example and that I'm not the best when making out example.

But the fact, that I've literally linked a subreddit containing articles about abuse of women's privilege, should tell you that there's no equality between man and woman.
Thank god that another subreddit that exists is the literal opposite.

If they're aiming at equality, then they're going in full circle.
If they want equality, they should address the middle east countries that treat women inhumanly.
