It truly was a Shawshank redemption

The problem with hanging so much hope on relationships as your life motivation is that when they don't work out (and that will happen a lot to the vast majority of people) you feel like you've hit rock bottom. My advice would be to focus on living for yourself, and not living for the company of others. If you're motivated to do things for yourself then you'll probably be happier in general.

In terms of getting motivated for yourself, start by doing things you enjoy. Even if it doesn't feel productive, just put down enjoying yourself as a productive thing to do. Try and find something that you enjoy that will make you feel productive. I play basketball a lot and it's nice to enjoy something that you can work hard at and see the results of your hard work in improvements.

I'd also suggest seeing your GP if this feeling persists. Everyone has low points, but if you find that you're feeling devoid of motivation and generally in a low mood for a long stretch of time, a medical professional will be able to give you better advice than I can.

"Course. Doing better next time. That's what life is."

P much what Mitas said. The only thing I'll add is that in my opinion it's more about self discipline/willpower than motivation. You can be motivated as s*** to do something but it doesn't mean you'll do it. You need to be able to force yourself to do something or think a certain way even when you're feeling apathetic otherwise you'll just keep spiralling down and your own actions end up feeding your fears and anxiety even more.

As somebody who has issues with depression/anxiety, i often find myself in that position. The only real plus is you get to a certain stage and just realize that your life currently sucks, and that only you can pull yourself out of it.

May not sound like much, and in my case this can take days or months to get there, but you just feel how low you've gotten (in my case I pack on a bunch of weight and lose all motivation), and then think "crikey, i've got to at least lose some weight...", which is turn gets me exercising/cheered up/moving/etc until I feel a lot better about myself, moving forward in the process.

Not much, but I hope that helps dude.
