The UK parliament just decided against a bill that would have made euthanasia a legal option for terminal patients with less than 6 months to live and I thought it'd make for an interesting discussion. What are your thoughts on euthanasia? |

If I ever get to the point to which I can't live a dignified life anymore because I have a disease and have to be bedridden in a hospital I'd probably resort to euthanasia... 100% pro. People should be able to decide if they want to pull the plug and stop suffering. |

To be honest, I don't think it should even be a debate. Who're we to tell a person who's only got 6 months left to live that they're forced to live that out, no matter how low their standard of life may be and ignoring how sad and angry that individual would be? Many MPs have argued that it's unethical, and that it puts a lot of pressure on people in that situation to choose Euthanasia, but that's no reason to deny the people who truly want and need it. |

I agree. I think for people in that situation, it must be an immense comfort to be able to take their life into their own hands, rather than spend their last days waiting it out, in discomfort, not knowing when their last day will be. I do think that there should be strict conditions for those who can take that action though. People need to have full, or near full, mental capacity. There also needs to be some sort of protection against their being coerced into making the decision by, for example, members of immediate family who may be in line to inherit money from the person in question. |

It should be allowed, but I will say it's sad to see someone choose to die. I think it should be their choice, provided they're of sound mind and completely hopeless in terms of survival. Though I know I'd try anything to get someone I know to not make that choice. Edit: and yes, make absolutely sure they're not being pressured in any way to die before letting them. The complex issues around this subject are why the bill failed to pass. I've been following it's progress on BBC parliament and the bill wasn't really good enough. Even though I did get the impression that most of the house were in favour of Euthanasia. Hopefully they can make some amendments and make it more fool proof next time. And yes I am in favour of it if it offers sufficient protections and rights. Edited by Pelador, Sep 11 2015, 06:06 PM.

My grandfather was ill and he had euthanasia. People who are against it are either completely ignorant on the issue or they're sick people. |

If people are terminally ill they should be allowed to die on their terms no questions asked, it's not the doctors business nor the stupid public business nor the churches what a person does with their life. It is not murder nor suicide it is mercy, we are all our own free beings and it should be our decision when / how we should die if terminally ill. Don't even brig God and religion into it, since that stuff isn't even real. |

Keyboard Warrior 1. A Person who, being unable to express his anger through physical violence (owning to their physical weakness, lack of bravery and/or conviction in real life), instead manifests said emotions through the text-based medium of the internet, usually in the form of aggressive writing that the Keyboard Warrior would not (for reasons previously mentioned) be able to give form to in real life. 2. Keyboard Warriors are generally identified by unneccessary rage in their written communications, and are regarded as 'losers' by other virtual identities on the internet. | |

I think it's insanely stupid how this is even a topic of discussion, it should be straightforward... See people often say it's disgusting because you're "basically murdering a person" I fail to see how opting to end suffering is evil compared to forcing them to suffer, coughing up blood every day and having to defecate in a bag and have people bathe you because you can't even stand by yourself. Not to mention how horrible an environment hospitals are to be in anyway, you're surrounded by sickness and death. What sane person would want to go through that? Aside from those who greatly fear death. I just don't see the problem. If you accidentally hit a deer with your car and it's lying there dying slowly, the moral thing to do is end it's misery, that's the common mentality in society...but when a human is suffering, putting them out of their misery is a bad thing? |
