I'm asking you what parts of the entire franchise do you want to be part of the story and which not to be?
Well, the definition of canon is quite undefined due to all the new material coming forth, so it really just goes down to what you want as canon.
For me "canon" is the manga (from 1985-1995), anime without fillers, the two newest movies(BoG, FnF), the Tarble movie and maybe the Broly ones cuz they're sick!
I'm excluding the fillers, GT, the rest of the movies, DB Super, Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, DB Minus and Toriyama's latest interviews which reveal a couple things.

I'll quote a previous post of mine from back in May.

1. Manga - Absolute factual material of the DB universe

2. Battle of Gods/Resurrection of Frieza/Dragon Ball Super/Toriyama interviews - Anything having to do with Toriyama's direct involvement or say-so without being in the original format. This is deemed canon as well in many circles. Although, not in all for variable reasons that extend from personal disagreement with some of the concepts to newly presented information contradicting already established facts in the manga.

3. Encyclopedic guides like the Daizenshuu and SEG - These are hit-and-miss sources for Dragon Ball information that have a habit of drawing up odd numerical values and making questionable statements that don't necessarily coincide with what the manga says or portrays. If you use these for reference material, they should be taken with a grain of salt.

4. Anime - Mostly just an adaptation of the manga that incorporates filler scenes to pad out events and add further entertainment value. I think I read somewhere that Toriyama may have given his input in some of the decision making before. Please don't quote me on that.

I just imagine everything is canon while I'm watching it, even though i know what I'm watching isn't always canon. Ya know what I mean? Much of the time I'm not fussed about how things fit in canonicaly unless we're breaking it down for discussions on this forum. While I'm watching on the lounge however, I'm just watching it :)

This pretty much describes it perfectly.

Personally, I'm just a 1 guy, Manga Canon.
Although I do like the Anime Adaptation of Canon events.
I don't like 2 for basically the reasons you gave in your description.

The manga. Everything else is a spin-off, as far as I'm concerned. Like, the manga is OOT, and the new content is Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland.

Since there are no plotholes, I consider Dragon Ball GT canon. Basically, since it takes place after all the other series' - including super - you could take it or leave it.

So Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super, and Dragon Ball GT I do consider canonical. Any movie from "Fusion Reborn" onward , as well as the Brolly trilogy, I have a hard time considering canonical in my head since they've gotten so far removed from the series and it's canon. I know all the movies are like that in some way or another but still...

The manga and anything that doesn't contradict it is what I consider canon. Everything else is simply extensions of canon.

Nothing has ever been said to not happen or not be canon. Just that it happens in an alternate dimension or be a side story whatever that means

If we're talking what is canon to the main story, then it's manga, db minus, jaco the galactic patrolman lol, and db super

IMO just the manga is canon. I think I'd have to consider Super canon is AT was drawing it as a manga.

Why does something having a manga make it canon?

My Dear Melancholy,

I have a canon similar to all the DC and Marvel TV shows. Basically everything is just a interpretation of events that happen. I have this weird theory that the narrator is telling a "legend" or a "folktale" to little kids (the audience) with all these events happening but depending on the story or the set of kids he's telling. Could explain the plot holes and the reckons we've saw. Or different interpret of scenes.

Video games, Beckett magazines, TCG, and anime filler. The rest is invisible.

This topic went more towards answering the question "What is canon in your opinion?" rather than "What parts would you WANT to be canon (the parts you like most in other words)?" which is what I was aiming at.
