Im a guy and I'm a big fan of Cider- love Stella Artois Cidre most of all.
Kopparberg is a good second, mainly Strawberry and Kiwi.
Magners and Strongbow are more what I will drink if I have no choice. I shudder at Gaymers but it's a cider so will go with it.

Not a fan of any beer or spirits to be honest....

So I was drinking a can of Cidre, had been most of the night.
My wife knew this couple and we were invited to theirs for a meal. It was my wife's friend new boyfriends and she wanted us to meet. They are both older than us. Him more so (he is in his fifties, wife's friends in her 40s and we are in our mid to late twenties)

At end of night before we were leaving the fella, the older bloke randomly goes to me, "Isn't Cider a woman's drink, I've always heard that..." He sort of stares at me.

I'm thinking, what the fudge?! Is it?! Do I care. It is maybe, what?! It is sweet I guess. But since when does that mean anything.... What?!

I shrug, not wanting to be rude and say, "Well I like it. I've never heard of that before."

He insists that it is....

Right... So what is the intention of this?
All that effort, speaking and trying to understand your problems and having a banter, listening to you brag about pennies and that your part of an elite club (free masons apparently)... Trying to be nice and get on, no judgment or anything...
Everyone is leaving to go home, hugs and byes and thank you's and all that fun stuff.... And he end it with that?!?

Why would you take a big steaming dump on the entire evening like that?
You've sort of just made me think your a bit of an idiot, a childish boy (remember he is over fifty and I'm near 30), who needs a bang in the jaw for being a disrespectful tool...

Btw, this older fella was drinking Baileys and some sort of fruit cocktail thing.... ...! So, how does that work...?

People are strange I guess.
My impression.
Not very good.

Hahaha.

Why weren't you sitting on my shoulder when that happened.
Best come back...!

Although if he gave me a wink... I'd need to consider either my left fist or right fist or both across his chin....

Sounds like he's compensating for having a small nob.

By the way I love cider too. Bulmer's is my favourite. Not a fan of Strongbow. It takes like horse s*** and makes my teeth feel sensitive.

but srsly though if he's in his 50s, then it's probably just that. at a push you could speculate maybe he felt some sort of need to belittle you because you're the guy in your prime and he's close to retirement age -- and you know guys and their egos in general -- but it doesnt really matter. i always thought cider was considered a drink typically for women, but it tastes good so f*** it -- i'll drink it whenever i want. i actually have some rite now and will probably get more to have with dinner later. it's also common for me to a lot of other guys in pubs drinking it.

And if anyone thinks that pure Cornish scrumpy is a woman's drink then they must know some tough as nails women cuz that stuff will make your knees buckle.

Cider is the bomb. It's quickly going more mainstream and if you're around a younger crowd they'll most likely want to try it rather than give you a hard time.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

Where I'm from, lots of people drink cider. It's a perfectly respectable 'man drink', whatever that means. And like you said, coming from the guy drinking a cocktail? (no slight on cocktails, I like them, but that would count more as a 'woman's drink' than cider). Hard to take him seriously.

However, I hate the whole 'men drinks' and 'women drinks' thing. It's ridiculous. Just drink what you want because you're an adult. If you like the taste, drink it. If you don't, don't. What someone else likes to drink has literally no impact on you in the slightest. People who judge what other people like to drink as 'credible' or 'real drinks' need to grow the f*** up.

I'll help you look for it.

I find it terribly strange that someone would choose something to drink based on something other than taste. Poseurs, everywhere.

I like my beer like my women like their beer. Strong and bitter. Like biting into a handful of Hops. I've never met a woman who thought of beer as labeled for a specific gender. I also knew one that could drink me under the table.

It's s***ty comments like that from his generation, the reason why we are struggling to understand something so simple as gender equality.

Orange juice is a sugary drink. Female.
Canned beer is beer. Male.

You spill sugar into canned beer, what gender is it now? Is it trans? Hermaphrodite?
