Why should he actually know better though? I don't remember ever being told it was illegal to take naked photo's of myself. It's not like the police show up at school like "HERE IS A LIST OF THINGS YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO DO" And it's a fairly random thing for a parent to come out with. My family have tons of photo's of me naked as a child, even ones with me in the bath with my female cousin who's younger than me. Should they all go to jail then? Should everyone with pictures of a naked baby? Perhaps I should be in jail too for as a 4-5 year old being naked in a bath and letting people take photo's of me. How awful! If sex for them is legal then why would it seem crazy that consensually taking photo's of yourself and sending them could possibly be a bad thing? Not to mention that sexting is a fairly new thing not like there are adverts all over TV saying you should never do it. The only reason you would ever know is if you have parents who think it's dangerous or if you linked it to child porn, which I doubt many teenagers having sex would because it makes no sense to consider them a child if they're allowed to have sex. |

Yes Steve, your parent's willingly participated in child pornography, get CCP and 911 and turn them in ASAP! ![]() This probably won't go anywhere, everyone see how silly this isthe judge likely will as well, at best it's sexting. |

Dude, I've explained everything already. The education is there so he should have known better, he did break the law, he is at fault. IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW I FEEL ABOUT THE MATTER BECAUSE THIS IS THE FACT! Last time in going to say it. Retain this information, and remember it after I've said the next part. I thumbs upped nagito's post because personally speaking I agree with him. I've already said i think what's happening to him is not fair in my opinion and I don't agree with the laws in place regarding this particular instance. I don't need to remind you however that it doesn't matter what i think. There's a law in place, we must follow it, so must he! Do I like this law? Not really. Teenagers do stupid things, infact if you can find me one teenager (one person even) that hasn't broken the law doing something they should have known better than to do I'll give you 100 dollars! But if you get caught, you suffer the consequences. Regardless of whether the law is good or not, it's just the way it is. And that's all in saying! I don't really want to argue about this man. I don't hate your objections. In fact many of them are perfectly reasonable and I agree with many of them, however the law doesn't. |

Quick question. The law is about sending a nude of your 16 year old self but you're 17 now correct? What if it was his birthday and he's only been 17 for 1 day? I also wasn't aware that private sexting between the 2 partners who's not even 18 yet was illegal. What happened to Romeo Juliet law? @Lazuil They tell you in school to watch what you post online and practice safe sex. But a private consented conversation between partners of the same age...I don't see the issue. It's like if I find a picture of me as a 17 year old (18 now) naked and police considered that porn. Lastly sending penis, vagina, or tits n butt isnt porn. It should not be categorize as child porn if it's not porn. |

This is pretty unusual, does this happen in North Carolina very often?

iirc, there was a case not too long ago where cops caught wind of sexting between two minors in a relationship. Found a picture of the boy's willy, and because the boy wasn't willing to hand over the phone, they more or less told him to strip naked so they could see if it was his penis in the picture. North Carolina seems like a really funny and backwards place to live... |

I grew up in / live in NC. I attended both public and private schools in my area, which is very close to the area where this happened and I can tell you from experience two things which affect my opinion on the issue. It's long and personal so there's your warning. Spoiler: click to toggle TL;DR = Kids don't know anything about sex or laws unless they research it themselves and most don't even know that they should know these things because they are friggin' kids with very little concept of responsibility or consequences. ((It took me an hour to write this... I'm sorry)) |

but that's the whole point of debating: you express different viewpoints and come to a head. just because lazuli is disagreeing with you doesn't mean he's "fighting" you as you put it. this isn't the first time you've accused someone of getting angry or fighting you, either. if you're going to express an opinion on a forum based on discussing and debating, then you should expect someone to disagree with you. don't just shun away their argument and say there's nothing they can do about it, especially when, as drew said, the law isn't always right and constantly adapts. edit: and you even liked drew's posts, which basically disagrees with what you say......... care to explain that? you're not trying to debate but you post your opinion on a forum that's bound to have other people disagree with you and then accuse them of either being angry or fighting you or w/e. makes no sense but whatever floats your boat. |

An opinion doesn't always have to be debated buubs. Especially after I said more than once I'm not interested in debating the topic, yet somehow found myself locked into one. Don't get me wrong, totally get this is a forum and it's bound to happen; but sometimes a person is allowed to just have a say and not have to explain what they mean by every single word used, over and over again! If somebody disagrees with what I'm saying that's cool. No worries at all. But must I be forced to explain each and every sentence in full detail, and then explain every sentence of that in full detail, and then so on and so forth? We go from having a discussion to going in circles. Not a very engaging debate after a while bro. |

then tell people that instead of accusing them of being angry or fighting you or w/e. the way you and other people do that gets ridiculous after a while because it implies we're attacking you. everyone's entitled to express their own opinion just as much as everyone else is allowed to question opinions that are expressed. if you're going to do that then expect some sort of rebuttal. |

This is the main thing. Sex education...practically everywhere is awful. America is often made fun of for it's crappy education system but my sex education here in Britain was basically: "Here's a diagram of a penis and here's a diagram of a vagina, this is what they do. And thus a baby is made" Nobody explained anything about underage sex either IIRC, the only time we got told about it is when a condom was found in the girls toilets in primary school(dunno what that is for Americans, grade school maybe) and our teacher went crazy explaining the dangers. Which basically none of us knew about. Look on Yahoo Answers if you need any confirmation about how little kids know about sex. (typed this hours ago and forgot to post )

My school legit promoted teenage pregnancy lmao real s*** frfr Freshman year you took child support classes . Basically teaching you how to raise a child from a Teenage PoV. Senior year you take health which is dumb as f***. All they said was you get STDS from sex unless you married. Yes this is their exact quote. |

) All of them tried to scare or guilt kids into not wanting to have sex by showing videos of childbirth, or slideshows of STDs while saying "This will happen to you if you have sex." The private school I attended had the principal/preacher give a sermon on abstinence / holiness. Never was it ever explained what is and is not illegal to do. This doesn't just mess up kids' entire perception of sex or romance, it purposely withholds from them information that they need in order to make responsible decisions for their futures.
