I can't be the only person who thinks that afros look cool. Why don't more black people grow them?

My Dear Melancholy,

Tldr: Money, hard to maintain new style, better hair products now.

Afros been..out of style for awhile now. It's also a pain in the butt to manage them and keep it looking clean (as it attractive). It cost more to maintain it and it conduct lots of heat. It's not in style anymore. Most people had one just because of lack of beauty supplies, money, and it was the fashion back in the day. Lastly an afro will get matted and destroyed if you lay down a certain way making it harder to maintain. When I had my curly afro (female version) before I cut it down it was a huuge problem sleeping on my back and stylizing it the right way. Though not as challenging a regular afro. It was very hard to make it perfect everyday (curly hair can get tangled quick). I know at my old salon the barbers hated Afros(thickness is hard to cut) and it was the 3rd most expensive haircut (35$).

Kobe Bryant once had a afro, he said now he can't even if he tried. So I'm assuming it takes a lot of maintenance to keep a afro stylish

I'm gonna guess it's because hair is a pain in the a** to maintain. I imagine an afro could be quite expensive to do so.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

Time, money, and effort I'd imagine. It's much easier to maintain shorter hair.

White people could grow them too...

But yeah, it's way too hard to maintain a hairstyle like this one, as stylish and bad-ass as it is.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.
