They have taken away Vegeta's pride

It makes me angry how they dismiss Vegeta's pride for comical relief. Vegeta would never be a servant towards anyone, even towards much stronger beings.
What do you think?

This is different. He's not dealing with some magic abomination, or some cyborg, or some galactic conqueror, he's dealing with the GOD of DESTRUCTION, who doesn't give a single damn who you are because he's going to destroy your home and the ones you love if you anger him, and Vegeta is not going to risk the chance of losing Bulma and Trunks again. This is a completely different enemy who is far more dangerous than any of the previous ones.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

I don't think they know what to do with Vegeta post-Boo arc. Finally accepting that Goku is the best seems to have forced him to behave even more irrationally, and accepting he cares for his family seems to have stripped him of any dignity.

They can show his concern and protective nature without making him act a fool.

Vegeta has forgone his Saiyan pride. He's an Earthling now.

I actually think he's being given too much pride. Him still being butthurt over Goku being the best seems out of character with the end of the Boo Saga. Him serving Beers though isn't that odd, it's a mark of his character development. He has people to care about now.

Vegeta changing his mind regarding Kakarotto being number 1 is no different from Vegeta training after claiming he'd never fight again after the Cell Games. People have the ability to change their perspective. Also, striving to be the strongest really has nothing to do with pride.

Like Buuberries said, it's like getting hammered, suffering a bad hangover, say you won't drink ever again, then next weekend you're doing the same thing again.

It's like Vegeta and his rollercoaster moments over training, combat, rivalry.

If anything, Vegeta being able to swallow his pride and look like a fool in front of every one else to appease Beerus is Super building upon his development in the Buu saga.

Vegeta's pride often made things far worse in the previous sagas, such as arrogantly goading Frieza into taking his second form, allowing Cell to absorb 18 and take his final form, and fighting Goku to the point where Buu was unleashed due to battle damage.

Vegeta's pride is still intact, the change is that he's more intelligent with how he goes about. I think Vegeta has developed to the point where he realizes that pride has its limits, and sometimes, its better to swallow that pride for the greater good.

And Beerus is a stark contrast to previous DBZ villians. Frieza, Cell, Buu, and even Vegeta himself could be reasoned with to some degree, or would hold back for the sake of testing their power or to have fun.

Outside of his fight with Goku, Beerus has not held back at all. He took down Piccolo, 18, Tien, Gotenks, and Gohan in single blows and did not see a point in holding back to "test his limits." Buu was the only one that was able to fight after being attacked by Beerus, but that's more due to Buu's ability to regenerate damage.

So, Vegeta is swallowing his pride to appease a violent, easily angered god who will destory a world over the slighest provocation. A god that mandhandled Goku as a Super Sayian 3 and Gohan who had the full extent of his power unlocked in the Buu saga.

Not to mention, Beerus likely had just as big of an impact on Vegeta's life as Frieza did. After all, he had to watch his own father, the proud King of the Sayians who was willing to fight Frezia grovel at Beerus' feet.

This is the turning point of Vegeta's development, where he's willing to throw away his pride to not only protect the earth, but for the greater good of his own family.

Totally agree. Not sure whether or not that's what AT is going for, but it certainly gives off that impression. Vegeta's arrogant pride gets everyone in all sorts of trouble. It did even still during RF! He thought he had everything covered and then BAM! Freeza blew the earth! You could make an argument that Vegeta's pride allowed that to happen which refers me to a saying "old habits die hard". So he hasn't completely changed in this aspect, but his character development suggests Vegeta has been working on this weakness!

To be fair to Vegeta, he did handle Frezia pretty well without really toying with him or trying to prolong their fight. I think he assumed he had everything covered that Frezia might try, and he likely did not realize Frezia had learned how to destroy planets without creating a giant sphere of energy that could be deflected or caught.

The funny thing is that Frezia actually caught everyone off guard and he had backup plans in the event things did not go in his favor. Goku and Vegeta both technically lost to Frezia. The only thing that saved them was Whis.

Had he not been there, both Sayian Gods would have been defeated. Frezia outsmarted every warrior on Earth, and was intelligent enough to not rely on his shiny new transformation alone.

What defeated him was an outside factor Frezia could not have prepared for.

Hi guys! New to the forum and just wanted to put in my 2 cents on vegeta recently.

I am hoping Vegeta gets his pride as the Prince of Sayains restored soon and it looks like we have had hints of that. I believe he will get his day in the new series judging from the previous 2 films his personality has changed a bit and appears to match Goku's level as a SSJGSSJ.

I guess we wont really find out until we see Goku and Vegeta training with Beerus to unlock their new powers and see if they actually match in terms of raw power. If the latest films are any indication then Vegeta is now more concerned with protecting his family and friends than his pride as the Prince, or combining this pride with the fact the he is too weak to protect Bulma and trunks which will drive him to become as stong as Goku. Yet of course Vegeta does not beat around the bush like Goku putting people under unneccessary danger just to play around with the villans! This will be the deciding factor if Goku and Vegeta become the same power level.

Can't wait to see more Super!!! Its not coming fast enough!!

I put the word "servant" in the context of being a slave towards someone.
Someone who shines someone's shoes, feeds them and even entertains them by humiliating themselves.
Vegeta along with the other Saiyans were just dominated by Freeza. I wouldn't say enslaved by him.
Besides, even with pride he can't just leave his home planet and his people, because that's where his pride is based upon- being the Prince of all saiyans.
