By that logic, Cell is free from fault as well. After all, it is his only purpose in life.

Even in matters not related to destruction, Beers acts like a savage despot. He tortures King Vegeta over a pillow and was friendly with Freeza

That's his personality.
It's how he's written.I personally like him better this way.In BoG he wasn't that much of a villain.

Also where is it stated that he was friendly with Frieza ?

I'm not saying he's without fault. You're simply looking at him like he's supposed to be a good guy, but he isn't. He's chaotic neutral.

It's implied that he destroys beyond the necessary amount; Elder Kaioshin worrying about him 'destroying the Universe' tells us that he's destroying more than he should.

He's a villain, sure, but that doesn't mean that he has to be a total d***. I liked him in BoG; he was somewhat likeable and was a breath of fresh air. Here, he's just ridiculous.

''Food's too greasy? Destruction.''
''You kept the best pillow to yourself and gave me the second-best one, so I'll step on you and shame you.''

He's actively being a d***

The problem lies in the fact that Goku and Vegeta are supposed to train under this a***** and that there are many moments when Beers is played for laughs. If he was played up as a straight up threat, that's fine. But he's not, he's supposed to be a future mentor to Goku and Vegeta and he is often the butt end of jokes. The jokes aren't funny because in other instances, he's taken really seriously. I know that technically, Whis is doing most of the mentoring, but he tolerates Beers's insanity.

Beers was chaotic neutral in BOG, he's chaotic evil in Super.

That's what villains are, characters you're supposed to hate.

He's a god of destruction, he has the right to destroy whenever he feels like it.
He's too merciful if I may say.He could've just blown earth and continue his life.

He's way better than he was in BoG, I'm sure they intended it this way.

No one thought that Piccolo was going to be a mentor back in the days when he was evil.
Just give him a Super Saiyan God to fight and maybe he'll change his personality.

Goku has to tolerate it because he can't stop it. He's not okay with destruction.

But Beerus wasn't like this in Battle of Gods though. His so called "Antics" were often downplayed and only talked about off screen. He had a personality and he didn't go around just blowing the s*** out of everything for the most minute and insane reasons. Sure this is something that was talked about in his character even before Super, but it was again brought up only on the side.

Just look at this episode compared to Battle of Gods in regards to Beerus. In the movie, Beerus was the life of the party, he was joining and having fun, break dancing and just being a great and fun loving person. Here though, he's just standing around, glaring at everyone...if not smiling that sinister grin at Vegeta. Yamcha gives him a light tap on the back and he looks like he's about to murder every single person on there. Nearly loses his senses when his one little wasabi gets soaked.

They're bringing up everything that makes him unlikable which was practically only glanced about in Battle of Gods while shoving the things that made him likable and even unique way down.

He isn't fit to be a god of destruction if he goes on a party and dance. This Beerus at least acts more like a god of destruction, Destroying anything that may irritate him and heck he's still too merciful.

You treat the god of destruction with respect.

Dark Matter sums it up, Super has downplayed anything and everything redeeming about Beerus in favour of him being a sadistic ****
Edit: even the manga did better, at least the guys there are implied to be EVIL. Here he's clearly a villain. If he gets killed I'll be fine but he won't, he'll get off Scott free and then train our "heroes".

I frankly prefer this take on Beerus. He's more menacing as he's become a take no s*** kinda a guy.

I like Beerus. He's so polite and even friendly in some ways, yet he's also a ticking time bomb. It makes scenes with him so enjoyable to watch because you never know how they're going to go down. Characters like Freeza, Cell and Boo were just evil, no questions asked. But Beerus seems like someone who will actually respect you if you don't piss him off.

Also a big point at the end of BoG is that Goku (and to a lesser extent Vegeta) affect Beerus. Beerus is supposed to be insanely evil now so that Goku's affect on him will be more clear.

And to be fair in the King Vegeta situation, it wasn't that he didn't give Beerus the best pillow, it's that he purposely kept the best for himself. You don't f*** over the God of destruction like that. While the subject itself is petty and silly, the meaning behind it (trying to trick a God) is a pretty stupid thing to do. King Vegeta's lucky that being stepped on was the worst Beerus did to him.

He's not better at all. He's much, much worse.

Did the inhabitants of the planet he half-destroyed in Episode 1, who catered to his needs and gave him a feast, disrespect him because they didn't know he thought their food was too greasy? He's a spoiled brat, and that doesn't make him a good or likeable character. They respected him and he destroyed half their planet because it wasn't exactly to his liking.

BOG Beers would maybe fall under that. This Beers though is remarkably similar to Freeza. The insane tantrums, the blatant sadism over minor things, and just in general an attitude that makes him enormously egotistical.

Beers doesn't respect people, he takes joy in having them serve him. They're very different things. Freeza liked having people at his beck and call as well. I like sadistic villains, true, but Beers is stuck in an odd limbo where it seems like the plot wants to downplay his insanity in order to make him funnier whilst simultaneously making him more menacing.
