So many people mock Yamcha of being killed by the Saibamen, but does he deserve it. What if you put another character in his situation. None of them would have been able to escape, even the most respected characters. (Piccolo, Gohan, etc.) Also, something that bothers me, is in the scene, none of the Z-Fighters do anything at all to help. Piccolo in the dub literally says, "it's over' without even attempting to help. Also, people seem to mock him for never winning any of his fights. True, but they aren't fair matches. How can Yamcha know what Android 20 looks like, and dodge his hand in time? How can Yamcha beat Chun or Hero, when A: He doesn't know who they really are, and B: They are leagues above him. Opinions? |

Just focusing on the saibaman here: 1 - Who else is to blame for him being over confident and not bothering to sense if the damn thing was alive? That's on him ultimately because he got cocky and didn't bother to even sense if it was alive before he dropped his guard, and it's not like they can suppress their power. Yamcha was being Yamcha there, all hot air 2 - Why is Yamcha so lazy he can't amplify the Kamehameha still? If he amplifies it even a tad, he fries the grass hopper. On the battlefield we see Tien with one hand amplify a Tribeam to the point he dies. We see Chaiotzu use life force to boost his power and be an even bigger bomb than the saibaman. We see Gohan offer a Masenko that is very big at the time while being 5 years old. We see Krillin amplify an attack to the point all the z fighters get the hell away and he kills off a chunk of the saibaman and even the Saiyans put up a mini guard ... Then there's Yamcha I mean yamcha's main flaws are his arrogance and his lack of dedication. Even with the androids, yes he isn't totally to blame, but he takes it half serious with hai training which is why by his own admission he can't keep up with Tien, Krillin, and Gohan anymore let alone piccolo and Vegeta |

I admit, Yamcha was cocky and arrogant. But that still doesn't mean he deserves mockery. His flaws are what make his character that much more interesting. When Krillin took the 4 Saibamen out he did it out of rage. When Gohan did the Masenko that was also out of rage. (And he is a saiyan, and they are over-powered.) I don't understand why people can't respect Yamcha for his bravery, honor and commitment. Yes, he did stop training, but that's because the enemies he would have to face were going to be to powerful. It comes down to the fact that the Saiyans and Namekians power increases at a exponential rate, while the humans are, just normal. Even Tien, Chiaoutzou, Krillin, and even Roshi just stop being useful. Then every character except Vegeta and Goku, and Gohan can do anything that makes a difference.

Krillin actually never stop being useful. He was written where he could help in other ways than fighting. |

To be fair, Yamcha hasn't had many victories, I mean even in Dragon Ball he almost always lost, his biggest achievement putting Kami on the ropes a little. Arguably one could say that Yamcha hasn't been relevant since Pilaf.Arguably.

I suppose to play Devil's advocate Yamcha was more badass in Dragon Ball. He did have more victories and was regarded as a talented martial artist. Plot wise his loses were to reflect how dangerous thebfoes he was facing really were. He only lost against the best of the best. (Jackie Chun, Tien, Kami.) In DB he beat down guys like Invisible Man, Fought evenly with the Tamburine (who had oneshotted Krillin) while his leg was broken and defeated Recoome in other world (Anime Only.) only problem was in Z the worf effect just dropped off and Yamcha just got Yamcha'd to prove he couldn't keep up. Its more of a plot thing. Piccolo and Vegeta get the same style of treatment, but they get to be the most powerful character on the show at least a couple times per season, so they appear more f Relevant and powerful by comparison, making their Worf Effects seem more justified. |

People probably make fun of him because aside from preliminary matches at the tournament, he hasn't one a single on screen fight in the entire series. Lost to kid goku twice, lost in first round of all 3 tournements, doesnt do a single thing during King Piccolo (to fair he was crippled), Died during saibamen fight, lost to Gero and Cell Jr, doesn't fight ever again. |

I like Yamcha a lot, he used to have swagger. Funny how the other earthlings character/personality kinda remained the same through the series but when it came to Yamcha it was like writers just wanted him to be less of a character. Wolf Fang Fist! |

His biggest moment is probably his entertaining scrap with Tenshinhan where he was spotlighted for a bit. Even then he was still majorly outclassed. Yamcha is what he is, he's the weakest of the Z fighters with the exception of maybe Chaozu, he's leagues away in terms of power, feats, relevance, you name it, from everyone, even the other humans, Krillen and Tenshinhan. I'm a fan of him too, but that's the truth. The fact that he never learns how to amp is also lol. |

Relevance =/= Whether he deserves mockery. It doesn't justify why someone shouldn't like him. If that's the case, why did Toriyama included any other character except the saiyans, that way, only they could fight, and pretty much win every time. It would just mean more screen time for them, and would be boring to most people who want interesting characters in the plot. (I say most because some people like the DB franchise because of the fight scenes, and that only.) |

I always believed that Yamcha was underestimated by fans. In spite of his bad luck, he did eventually become one of the more honest characters of the series. Recognising his own limitations and not being hesitant to express how he feels about a situation are traits that I can respect. He's not a Super Saiyan. There's no untapped depths of inestimable alien power in him like there is for Gohan. A lot of people will call him a coward, but showing fear when you're huddled down in a fox hole out on a battlefield that's being bombarded with artillery and machine gun fire, so to speak, is natural. |

The problem with Yamcha it that always, always lost when he had any relevancy, and fast became irrelevant. He barely beats out Chaozu in terms of feats and whatnot, and is far behind Krillen and Tenshinhan. I mean, look at the resume differences. Krillen: - Semifinalist in the 21st and 22nd World Tournaments - Fought the second strongest fighter in the 23rd World Tournament, had his moments - Takes out multiple Saibimen - Gives some difficulty, albeit minor to Nappa - Fights well with Gohan vs Ginyu Goku - Does his part vs Freeza - Noted to be the strongest human, at least in the Buu saga - Shows up in RoF, doesn't look as good as the others outside of Roshi, but does battle and takes out many soldiers Tenshinhan: - Wins 22nd World Tournament - Semifinalist in the 23rd, losing in a tough battle - Easily beats Saibaiman - Is killed by Nappa, but was the only Z fighter fighting for him for a while by himself - Dodges Android 20 lazer beam - Stops 2nd form Cell and inflicts minor damage to him, something Android 16, the next most powerful character at that point, could not do. - Deflects Super Buu blast - Is complimented by Buu for being a master - Easily disposes of soldiers in RoF with no viable trouble Yamcha - Loses first round of every tournament - Killed by Saibaiman - Wrecked by Android 20 - Does nothing of note in Buu saga - Doesn't show up in RoF, noted by Tenshinhan to be too weak His resume is bad compared to those two. Yamcha gets laid a lot and manages to stay in Krillin and Tensinhan's league without trying as hard as them. He also fought evenly with Goku with no training when he was just f***ing about in the desert. |
