Thought! Vegeta is just as good as Goku, but...; He is a loner

This just caught my attention, believe it or not. So we all know the lore that Vegeta is second to Goku, and this has driven their rivalry since the beginning. A neat change, since it's usually the hero who tries to surpass his darker rival.
But I was watching DBZ Abridged, and Goku's line "No, Gohan, we haven't gone in yet" caught me by surprise. Was DBZA Goku's usual stupidity? Yeah, probably, but the abridged series exaggerated just how different Goku and Gohan's training regimen is compared to Vegeta and Trunks'. I began to imagine: would Vegeta and Trunks have been any stronger if they actually trained together, as father and son?

Then it hit me— could it be that Vegeta is only secondary to Goku because he always trains by himself? He prefers to do things alone, and this may be what comes back to haunt him throughout the series. Why he can never surpass Kakarot.

Think of it as how a Saiyan's entire outfit can change if they go Super Saiyan.

So....His shoes are Super Saiyan 4?

I think part of the reason stems from how they approach the training. Vegeta's regimen is all about pushing his body to the limits with as much effort as he can muster. Goku has a similar approach, but he also looks at the method of the training and finds a logical approach that can best help him to adapt to and become accustomed to the strength he earns. Remaining in SSJ until it became natural for him is a case-in-point.

Put simply, I think it's a matter of Goku training smartly and efficiently vs Vegeta rigorously exerting himself while training for longer periods at a time. The fact that Goku is willing to cooperate with others and help them grow so they can eventually be an asset to him is a part of that.

Goku's training method is much better than vegeta's.

Goku trains with someone, while vegeta is alone(he barely trains with trunks)

Goku rests after training, while vegeta pushes himself to the very limit.

Goku also underwent special trainings.

They both come with their merits however, Vegeta is obviously toughened to the point that he can take thrashings from Boo while at barely no reserve and still get up and continue

That was entirely filler. It took Boo three shots to take him out of the fight, all whilst toying. The scene where Vegeta gets up and freaks Boo out did not happen, it just consisted of Vegeta being punched and kicked a couple of times and then getting choked out.

Goku also survived an assault from 50% Freeza, that's a larger power gap there.

I think the difference between them is now they train. Goku is a step ahead, most of the time, from the seem. Vegeta is figuring it out, though.
