It's interesting how Goku was so adamant about having a fair and proctored tournament match against Piccolo Jr to the point where he allowed him a free punch to compensate for Kami's interference and was still asking the announcer to count when Piccolo was seemingly down for the count. This is happening after the entire island was pretty much vaporised and only the foundation of the ring is still standing.

I wonder what could have changed Goku's stance on having a fun competition between the 23rd Tournament and the Cell Games. Both enemies were pretty much intent on wiping out all life on the planet. The only difference is Piccolo being interested in conquering the world instead of destroying it, which isn't much better because humanity is doomed either way.
