What are your opinions on the difference between Goku's and Vegeta's power? At the beginning of Z Vegeta was so much stronger than Goku (Goku said that himself). Not only was Vegeta more powerful, but also faster and his techniques were much better, Goku didn't have a chance and if the others would have stayed out of the fight Vegeta would have killed him easily. But during the Namek-Saga, so only one month later, that changed radically. Vegeta could no longer keep up with Goku. I don't know but that seems so ridiculous to me ... Of course, Goku is the hero of the series and he's always gonna be the strongest and so on but still... 'The two strongest fighters in the universe' but one can't keep up with the other ... No matter how much Vegeta trains, Goku is not only one but five steps ahead of him. Goku spend one year in the room of spirit and time, Vegeta a couple of years ... Why can't Vegeta keep up with Goku? Am I the only one who thinks that it's ridiculous?

What I think is ridiculous is the fact that the series tries to make it seem that Vegeta and Goku are "rivals" when in fact Goku is almost always ahead of Vegeta. Even when Vegeta is ahead, it happens only when Goku isn't even there (Androids saga, Super Vegeta) All the main villains, in the series and movies, are defeated only by Goku. What about Bojack and Cell you say? Well, apparently Gohan needed Goku's help to be able to beat them even though Goku was dead. Also, from a certain point of view, Gohan is only allowed to kill these villains because he is the Son of Goku. I don't know. It just seems unfair to create great characters like Vegeta, Piccolo, Gohan, and Future Trunks only to relegate them behind Goku. I think Goku is a cool character, but he shouldn't always have to be the hero. |

The reason Vegeta's always behind Goku is because his style of training is vastly inferior. Goku trains until he gets exhausted and stops, letting his body rest. Vegeta pushes his body to its limits and doesn't rest nearly as often as he should, so his gains take a hit because of that. Also, Goku gets a ton of training opportunities. He trains with Popo, Kami, Kaio, Gohan, Piccolo and in Otherworld. Vegeta, on the other hand, only trained once with Trunks and trains by himself the rest of the time. Fighting with someone else is much more efficient than training by yourself. I think Vegeta's naturally the stronger of the two, but because Goku's been afforded all of these benefits that Vegeta hasn't had access to, Goku always comes out on top. |

Goku strives to be stronger while Vegeta strives to be the strongest. |

Training methods are important. Goku is very good at determining how much he can work out before he needs to eat or sleep. He gets plenty of food and sleep in between training, while Vegeta pushes himself harder and harder because he's obsessed with beating Goku. If Vegeta would use Goku's training method, he'd improve in a more timely fashion. |

It's just like real life. The guy who pushes himself to his breaking point and then lets himself rest for a while is going to get more gains than the guy who pushes himself to his breaking point and keeps going, allowing little rest and repair of the body.Kaiba and Yugi are definitely rivals even though Yugi is almost always ahead of Kaiba (if even by a slight amount or because of plot), so I don't really see a problem with Vegeta and Goku being rivals just because Goku is ahead most of the time. |

Well, there isn't much of a difference between them anymore, but yeah, the reason Vegeta was always so far behind in Z was because his training methods were simply inferior. He always pushed himself without resting, and often declined offers to spar. |

Vegeta is a tragic character. He defines himself by his pride as it's all he had for so long but it is his pride which holds him back the most. He refuses to accept help and even refuses to accept his own body's fatigue. |

Goku wants to be stronger so he gets stronger. Vegeta is so prideful he always gets pushed back without knowing, and ends up becoming inferior. And that's how it's always been. |
Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?! Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power. | |

I think Vegeta could beat Goku if he were to make a few changes in his training. |

Good point. When I think of the term "rivals" though, I think about competitors who are so well-matched that sometimes you can't tell who is going to be the stronger one. In DBZ, it became apparent that Toriyama wanted Goku to be stronger. Vegeta is only stronger when Goku wasn't there. It is getting better with the new movies. They are rivals indeed, but sometimes the rivalry seems very one-sided, if this makes sense. |

Okay, so you say it's because Vegeta's training merhods aren't as good as Gokus. But he works so hard and he was raised as a soldier/fighter. I'm pretty sure during his time on Planet Vegeta or as Freeza's soldier he learned how to train right and so on, or not? Cause during his first apperance you saw how good he was, you can't get left behind so easily, can you? And as SuperSaiyan1993 has mentioned: it's stupid that they on the one hand want to tell us that they are rivals but on the other hand they make Vegeta always look like a complete jerk compared to Goku.. (Btw: why is it only 'Goku' in the english version? :D) |

I feel what you're saying man. And I think you're right. But I always found it interesting since only Vegeta seems to care about beating Goku. Hell honestly the first time I saw them stoaked to go rounds was in GT right before Super 17. Like I feel like Goku is Vegeta's rival, but Goku is rivals with Goku. Like he's interested in getting better but not really staying ahead of Vegeta or anything. Maybe if there was more bad and forth. Yami and Kaiba always had a deathly close back and forth and dueled at least once a season. Hell Naruto and Sasuke felt more dynamic because one of them was clearly ahead and both of them were concerned about the others progress. Goku just, trains but doesn't care if Vegeta is tough or not as long as he has someone as strong as him. Its an unrequited love... Rivalry. |
