UEFA Champions League & Europa League 2015/16

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

Thought I'd create a topic for both competitions. Has anyone been paying attention to the qualifying rounds?

West Ham only managed to squeeze through on penalties. I find myself saying it a lot, but I'll never understand why English teams don't seem to take the Europa League seriously. I know they qualified in the end, but what's the point in risking elimination by playing a weakened team? My cousin is a West Ham fan and is talking a lot about expectations for this season, but I think he's overreaching. He wants European qualification and a good Europa League run, but I don't think they're capable of either. The top 6 is seemingly locked up, in whatever order, and Southampton and Swansea will most likely be behind them. They'll do well to finish in the top half.

Celtic seemed to qualify comfortably, although my Grandad wasn't happy with some of the performances. He said the scorelines flattered them and if they had been facing a team with better finishers, it would have been a lot closer. He's never happy with them though :P

Yeah, I'm happy with that draw. Easy groups can be tough, because you get little credit for going through, but one bad result gets you a lot of criticism. Still, we should be topping that group.

Celtic have a tough group. Ajax and Fenerbahce are strong teams.

So it's the first round of games in the Champions League today. Man City vs Juventus looks to be the marquee game, but Sevilla vs Monchengladbach should be a decent game. Anybody gonna watch any of the games?

Either going to watch United v PSV or switch (switches between all the matches and shows you the best moments from all matches)

The only match available to me (since I don't have an extended subscription) is PSG - Malmö. Screw that.

I don't have access to any games now that ITV don't have their Champions League rights any more, which is annoying, because I prefer having football games involving teams that aren't Liverpool in the background so I can browse the internet if I get bored. Now if I watch a game I won't be able to do that, since I'll be doing so on my laptop.

in the Netherlands it's really bad as well. The Dutch games are being aired but for the other matches you need to pay for a particular channel.
With competitions it's even worse, there's one channel that has rights to La Liga and Serie A, another that has rights to the Dutch 2nd League and Premier League and a third one with right for the Ligue 1 and Bundesliga.

LOL PSV epic troll.

Arsenal's defending tonight.

Chelsea lost too. Not looking great for English football at the moment.

Completely forgot Champions League was tonight. Chelsea really aren't looking great this season. How can a team go from looking so strong one season to this abject the next? Sure, they didn't sign many new players, but the existing players shouldn't be playing worse than they were last season.

Arsenal losing at home to Olympiakos....just shouldn't be happening, especially when you're shipping 3 goals in the process.

Definitely lots of surprising results.
BATE beats Roma
Olympiakos beats Arsenal
Porto beats Chelsea

Gent is also playing surprisingly well.

Tonight I'll probably watch either PSV-CSKA or Atlético-Benfica

City and United won. It's not all doom and gloom for English teams after all. In fact beating Wolfsburg is a very good result.

Time to sack that overrated manager of ours. Louis van Gaal does not fit in well with Man Utd, let that be said.

He should go to Chelsea. I think his style would work better there.

Pep Guardiola for United.
