UEFA Champions League & Europa League 2015/16

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

Thought I'd create a topic for both competitions. Has anyone been paying attention to the qualifying rounds?

West Ham only managed to squeeze through on penalties. I find myself saying it a lot, but I'll never understand why English teams don't seem to take the Europa League seriously. I know they qualified in the end, but what's the point in risking elimination by playing a weakened team? My cousin is a West Ham fan and is talking a lot about expectations for this season, but I think he's overreaching. He wants European qualification and a good Europa League run, but I don't think they're capable of either. The top 6 is seemingly locked up, in whatever order, and Southampton and Swansea will most likely be behind them. They'll do well to finish in the top half.

Celtic seemed to qualify comfortably, although my Grandad wasn't happy with some of the performances. He said the scorelines flattered them and if they had been facing a team with better finishers, it would have been a lot closer. He's never happy with them though :P

What about Champions league? Monaco vs Valencia should be interesting.

Could be but I don't think Monaco has enough about them to beat Valencia.

I was hoping that Manchester United might make an impact but after the Aston Villa game on Friday I'm not sure any more. So the winner is probably going to be Real Madrid again.

There's going to be a few close matches yeah.

Celtic VS Malmö
BATE VS Partizan
Lazio VS Bayer 04
Sporting VS CSKA
Valencia VS Monaco

All close games there.

When the play-offs are done I'll start another sweepstake for the CL this year

Dat 2nd Memphis goal and an assist on the last play of the match. United looks terrific, admittedly it's the only game I've watched of them. Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger lock up the middle of the pitch. Fellaini is a perfect late match super sub and Herrera isn't even seeing the field. Crazy. There's very little creativity up top but United keeps possession so well with the Schmidfield, they make up for i.

Disappointed by Southampton tonight. They were very sloppy all across the pitch. I might understand if it was an away game but this was at home.

Giving up an away goal could prove crucial too. Hopefully they can perform better in the 2nd leg, I'd like to see them go far in the tournament (because then Liverpool can just sign their best players like we seem to be making a common practice).

Agreed, but keyword is could. There's no indication that the team will concede a goal, let alone two. Their defense has been incredibly solid for months now, only a weak interception by Carrick to prove otherwise.

I was talking about Southampton :P Should have quoted Pelador.

Nah, I think Man Utd are pretty much through. They looked strong enough, Memphis especially. Also, side note, Memphis is infinitely cooler on the shirt than Depay would have been. I almost wish I was a Man Utd fan from Memphis so I could buy his shirt.

Oh, well in that case I agree with you.

It was my fault, Mitas. My mind was on Man Utd at the time of my post since I read about them. Should've figured the talk would be about today's matches :p

Am I the only one who's going to mention Borussia's performance here?

30 minutes: 3-0 for Odds BK
1 hours later: 4-3 for Borussia

It's like they thought it was a friendly match and the coach told them in the second half it's a Europa League Play-off match.
