http://www.metrotimes.com/detroit/how-a-homeless-satanic-monument-wound-up-in-detroit/Content?oid=2357195#fromMobile TL;DR, Bronze statue of Baphomet created by Satanists seeks and fails to place the statue on Oklahoma Capitol steps, holds party for unveiling at secret location after death threats from local Christians. I think that it is good that another religion is challenging the placement of religious idols by attempting to place their own next to it. The idea is that, if one group can place their idols in a State funded public place, so can another. At least that's the basic understanding of it. However as we know, some people have an interest in telling others what they can or can't do. Those people in this situation being Christians. This parallels the Gay Marriage situation quite well. Power is perceived to be taken away from a group, and said group gets really upset about it. Even though there really isn't any power loss, just equality being attempted. What do you think about this? |

Satanists are just clever atheists. They are atheist but they act as a religion by saying they worship satan. That way they take advantage of all the priviledges Christians have and try to show society that religious freedom is going too far. I like Satanists, they're a great way to explain to religious people why they can't have certain rights that they call "freedoms." The funniest part is that the stupid among the Christians actually take them seriously and think that they truly worship Satan and then criticize the religion. What they don't realize is that they've walked into the Satanists' trap and shown that they're hypocrites when it comes to religious freedom. |

Yeah, basically what's already been said. It's just trying to expose how hypocritical America is about its own Constitution and what they allow. They should've allowed it, considering the Constitution states that the country shall in no way establish a state religion nor respect only one religion's views and what they want. If they were consistent, they would've allowed the statue to be put up. But as you can see, all that happens is the ones seeking to try the equality given by the Constitution are instead given death threats. |

It's so ironic how Satan's followers happen to be less troublesome than God's. I don't really think that statue causes any problems, it's just a cool piece of stone. |
Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?! Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power. | |

They decided against doing it in Oklahoma because the state Supreme court ordered the monument of the ten commandments taken down. The statue of Baphomet was initially intended to promote the statute of religious freedom being displayed on state property, but since the Ten Commandments was to be taken down, the purpose of putting it up at that location was lost. Detroit has the largest Satanic population in the US. This is the reason why they decided to put it up there. However, Modern Satanism is a greatly misunderstood religion. It actually has little to do with the literal depiction of the Judeo-Christian Satan, which is what most Christians misunderstand. The religion is more about being anti-theistic, anti-establishment, and promotes secularism and religious freedom. They idolize the Biblical Satan because they see him as the unsung hero of humanity, offering Eve an alternate life of worldly knowledge and freedom instead of ignorance and servitude to God. They also believe that Eve is a hero of humanity as well because of her decision to eat from the tree of knowledge instead of blindly follow God's word. However, to say that they worship him is not really accurate, they just believe what he stands for. Edited by Ketchup Revenge, Jul 29 2015, 12:13 AM.

Satanism sounds pretty good actually l0l. I don't see a problem with this. If one religion has it's statues and stuff, other religions should have that same right. |

It's actually not that bad of a religion, to be honest. I also don't believe Satan is the enemy as Christianity believes, but I don't believe in Satan's existence, just the concept of his role in human society. If I actually believed in him, I can't say that I would pass up this religion. The thing is that people completely misunderstand the US Constitution. There's a big debate about separation of Church and State, but separating Church and State is actually never stated in the constitution at all. It's not that religious symbols can't be present on state or federal property (or even funded by these establishments), the part that's unconstitutional is that if the government allows or funds one religion, they can't exclude funding or allowance of any others. Every religion has equal right in the eye of the US Constitution, and can be funded by them, as long as it doesn't infringe upon any other part of the constitution. This is what the Satanic monument was going for when they wanted it on Oklahoma. They wanted to demonstrate equality for all religions, while the actual physical appearance of the monument that they would erect was irrelevant to the larger picture. They wanted to demonstrate that Christianity isn't the only one that has a place on state property. Edited by Ketchup Revenge, Jul 28 2015, 11:58 PM.

My problem with Satanism has to do with the Satanic rules seeming rather dickish, for lack of better word.![]() 1, 2, 4, 6, and 11 specifically. It's like the ultimate rebellious teen fantasy. Irregardless of my feelings on Satanism, it's a cool statue and it's nice for it to be presented. |

Irregardless isn't a word. You may want to stop using it since it might make you look stupid one day. Anyway, this just seems like attention seeking to me. I mean does anyone really care? Unless the statue is like a big phallic symbol or something? |

We had a member here who followed Satanism and was very open about it. I don't recall him talking about that image you posted though. It was much different from his perspective. His name was http://dbzf.co.uk/profile/9885/ He claimed that Satanism was mostly about the self. Embellished greed. Had very little to do with rituals. http://dbzf.co.uk/topic/28515/1/ Edit: I just read that topic again and it is a damn mess. |

There are many branches of Satanism. The rules apply to LaVeyan Satanism, which is one of the more common breeds. But in general, Satanism focuses a lot on spite and revenge. You're your own god in a sense and deserve to punish others with righteous indignation if they offend you. But this thread is getting off track really fast so that's all I'm going to say on that |
