My only take away is that I'm lucky to have been born in the greatest country on Earth.
Oh boy... This is a statement you might want to back away from. What makes you say your country is so great. The Constitution is one of the greatest documents ever drafted. We're the first modern nation to be explicitly founded with ideals of individual rights and a limited government. Most of the other great nations have found their success by copying this model to a large degree. This makes me feel proud to be an American.

You can make a nice constituion but It's not worth a lot when you barely follow it. Your country is supposed to be secular yet the majority of Americans think their nation is a Christian one. There are no known atheists in office which is pathetic. Your 2nd amendment is heavily misinterpreted. Besides that there are no real statistics that make your country that great. Unless you think military spending and incarcerated prisoner rates make a great country. Then there are the obvious problems with health care costs, a political system completely shifted to the right, militarized police officers, a war on weed that results in non-violent prisoners. Your country is western. Thats nice, but don't call it 'the greatest'

Netherlands hasn't been relevant since Anne Frank and that s*** weather.

The 'n' word is a historical term that highlights our ignorance. We should keep it around as a reminder of just that.

ooo boy an America thread again? I'll just give my two cents on why America the greatest country (currently)
Greatest military force (likely would defeat Asia in 1 v all) Greatest exporter of culture world wide Largest GDP
And...
NASA
Granted these can change anytime. There's tons of criticism on America, but that just comes with being number one. If any other country was #1 all of their issues would be under the #1 magnifying lens too.
Anyway on topic as to not derail the thread: No, no word should ever be banned that's ridiculous.

You also might have the largest GDP. But that's pretty useless considering how many people live in your country. A better way to look at a good country is to look at GDP per capita, or perhaps GDP (PPP) per capita. The U.S. doesn't top the list at either of those categories.

Just police giving you a fine whenever you curse. It's ridiculous. Who even determines whether something is a bad word or not? Bad words are only bad because we make them bad, there is a limit to what you can make illegal. There will always be bad words. If you make *sshole an illegal word people will find new ways to call someone an *sshole and then those words become bad.

The fact that a lot of money is spent on it is a bad thing, but that's a spending issue irrelevant to the quality and quantity of the military.
Having the largest GDP means that we have a large amount of economic independence from the rest of the world. Also means we control a considerable part of the world's economy. If any country pulled out from being an economic force in the world, the US being that country would have the most devastating impact.

Your view on the world is pretty depressing if great countries are defined by large and powerful armies and the economic power of a government. If that's how you define a great country then fine, you win, I'll happily admit America is #1. But I still wouldn't want to live there.
I'd base my ideal country on one where the people have a high happiness rate, where health care is good and available for everyone, a high ranking on the GPI, a country with low crime rates, a large GDP per capita, a country where people can enjoy many freedoms.
But if you don't see it that way than the debate has no point and we'll just have to agree to disagree.
We've also gone offtopic, let's stick to banning words lol

New Zealand has always been a great place to live, but it's never been great. Rome and Britain might have been the s***tiest places to live with horrible disease and congestion, but I'll be damned if they weren't the greatest places on Earth at the time.

It still defeats the point of saying you feel lucky to be born in the 'greatest' country on earth. Because you shouldn't feel lucky, you're more unlucky. (Looking at other western countries, of course Americans are lucky looking at Africa and Asia) Also, calling ancient Rome, America and the Soviet Union great countries is very deceiving giving you the impression It's great to live there and be a part of it.

I don't disagree with this. It's just that the classical definition for greatest isn't what people here often think it is.

-We're at the forefront of the technologies of the future. (Example: biotechnology) -We attract the best and brightest from around the world. We're an immigrant magnet. Their brainpower ensures our continued success. (The best people are attracted to the best country) -Unlike China or Russia we generally have global support. We have accepted our role as world police. (Despite the bad press it sometimes gets us) -We led the charge for global democracy. -Our graduate level universities are the best in the world. -Culture. Think of the movies, books, art, and music that come out of America. Enough said. -National Parks: We have 84 million acres of buttes, plateaus, rapids, coral reefs, caverns, badlands, volcanoes, glaciers, falls, fjords, swamp-lands, sandstone arches, mangroves, geysers. We have it all. Our country is truly beautiful and diverse; however, that's not where our diversity ends. - Diversity- Today on August 26th 2015 I've seen guys and girls from India, China, Korea, Africa, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, South America, and Canada. And don't get me started on the established racial groups here in the US, (whites, blacks, Mexicans). The fact that all of us live together n a society where everyone is treated equally and is judged on their merit is truly amazing.
And finally, We have our flag on the f***ing moon.

Oh and also: "The fact that all of us live together n a society where everyone is treated equally and is judged on their merit is truly amazing." You know this is a lie. Racism is very relevant today in America.

Of course racism is a theme. It's only a theme because of how diverse we are!
