 With Digimon coming back this November (I know pretty far, but whatev) I thought we should do a discussion to refresh our memories on what happened in the first series.

OK so if I'm right Agumon/Greymon is the strongest of the protagonists? Originally watching the show I always assumed and hoped Angemon was the strongest of the group.

And how did the first season end? Who was the last protagonist and what was left up in the air to be continued?

 Is the new series a sequel or a reboot? Because I don't remember anything lol

 From what I see on wikipedia it continues after Digimon Adventure 02. Which was basically, "Taking place 3 years after Digimon Adventure, the Digital World comes under attack from a mysterious human calling himself the Digimon Emperor who is enslaving Digimon with his Dark Rings while building Control Spires that negate Digivolution and act as relays to transmit power to the Dark Rings."

 My memory is a bit hazy, but the first season ended with the Dark Masters (Metal Seadramon, Puppetmon, Machinedramon, Piedmon). WarGreymon took care of Seadramon and Machinedramon, MetalGarurumon took out Puppetmon, and then MagnaAngemon took down Piedmon after the Dark Master had effortlessly owned WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon simultaneously, even though MagnaAngemon was only an Ultimate compared to the others who were Megas. It was a cool moment, but it never amounted to actually making Angemon the "next best thing," so to speak.

Adventure 02 had the Digimon Emperor, which I thoroughly enjoyed (minus the BS reason to exclude the original cast), especially when the arc was reaching its end and we got Chimeramon or whatever. Once Ken (the emperor) was defeated, that whole season kind of fell off for me. I think we got Myotismon as the villain again in a different form, but the only thing that interested me past the Digimon Emperor was Black WarGreymon...mostly because I got to see normal WarGreymon again.

I'm hoping this new season will be good. I really want it to be. The third season, though I hated it at the time, was fairly solid, but the fourth and fifth (and sixth if they're on that?) were all mediocre.

Oh, and yes, Agumon was the strongest of Adventure 01, even if by a tiny amount. Garurumon was a very close second. Hell, if I remember right, the TCG had MetalGarurumon a little stronger than WarGreymon, which royally pissed me off because my friends would use it in debates against me.

 Yeah I remember it falling off after the emperor was defeated.

Well to be fair Metalgreymon >> Metalgarurumon.

Where does Angemon stand? Is Graymon stronger than Angemon?

I don't even remember, honestly. I'm assuming he is because he's the main protagonist and essentially the face of Digimon, or at least the first season and most merchandise relating to that era. Angemon himself was never portrayed as anything too special.

 Eh, Patamon's digivolutions were built up to be really strong (to the point where they were essentially as strong as the grade above them), but that seemed to fall to the side after Adventure 01.

 The only significant things I remember any of Patamon's digivolutions doing were killing Devimon and Piedmon, and those instances were more deus ex machinas than anything else. The rest of the time he was lumped in with the rest of the B-team, I believe.

 Yeah I always assumed Angemon+ (apart from the pegasus one) were always a class above everyone else, but only be summoned temporarily in dire situations.
