Anyone else agree? I know they really can't do anything new, because most of the time they are released when the series is still on-going. So for example in DragonBall movies, they obviously can't have a new transformation or anything to defeat the villain, because they can't make one. But the movies themselves are rarely ever good or entertaining. They are way too short most of the time, only being around 45 minutes (DragonBall movies at-least). Villains also seem like rehashes of the series or re-tellings of what happened in the series. What's the point? Most, if not all, of the time, they also follow a formula for every movie. Like it's always the same. They also most of the time can't fit into the canon, and contradict a lot of things, so it's kind of hard to take them seriously when you know there aren't any (serious) implications that could maybe affect the story later on. It's just a stand alone story. There isn't anything that's ever memorable in the anime/series movies. I heard One-Piece is doing well in movies, though, because Eiichiro Oda actually helps with the movies. I'm only talking about movies that have series counter-parts, by the way. Have you seen Fist of the North Star? That's a great movie. Admittedly I don't watch anime movies really though. |

I haven't. I haven't seen the series, either though. Is it really that good? Also I forgot, but I do like Detective Conan movies. |

Naruto movies are terrible. I agree that movies usually aren't as good. It's amazing that they can be so bad at times too. |

Yeah I rarely enjoy anime movies, I think the problem is that most of the time they're just filler. They don't feel at all worthwhile to watch and the plots are almost always awful. It's like a completely different show, characters are stupid as heck, they don't use their transformations and whatnot until the end for the sake of drama even the character would most definitely wipe the enemy out the second they appeared. Recap movies are the worst I'd say...what's the point? At least a normal movie is new albeit crappy content. Why is someone who just watched a series they loved going to enjoy it condensed in to an hour, missing most of the cool stuff... Really only enjoyed a couple of DBZ movies, the HxH movies and not watched it yet but the Gintama movie is supposed to be awesome. |

That is basically what they are, filler. But also on the point that DragonBall Z movies always had the same ending of a spirit-bomb (a lot of movies did), you can't really blame them for that, either. Toei was almost dependent on A.T and the canon to do a new transformation (can't really put it in a different way. I hope you understand though). If they just all of a sudden got a random power-up somehow at the end of the movie and easily destroy the all-mighty villain, people would have probably complained that it was inconsistent and didn't make sense. That's why they maybe should wait until the series ends, or have the creator of the series help with the story (which you can't blame them, if they didn't want to since they're already working on the manga.). Probably one of the reasons why the movies always feel like a quick way to make money, instead of doing something good. |

I don't watch much anime but for the ones i did watch didnt have that good movies, only some DBZ ones, Death Note's movies werent even movies, just the series crumbled together with barely any extra content in them, and Bleach's movies 3 and 4 were half decent, the other 2 are pretty @$$. |

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Both the series and Solid State Society are phenomenal. |

Yeah I think filleryness is what really ruins it, the HxH movies were pretty decent. They weren't stellar but they were based on arcs written by the mangaka that he never put in the series, not just random crap the same people who write fillers come up with. I think they should get mangaka involved more, seems to work with Naruto too The Last is supposed to be good and the Boruto movie might be cool too, heavy involvement with Kishimoto. Anime's do botch the manga up a lot but the creator should still be pleased to see a movie do well, so I don't see why they rarely make an effort to do storylines and such for them when the content they create is far superior to the anime team with nothing to go on. And yeah I get what you mean about transformations, like how they had Goku absorb the Spirit Bomb in the Android 13 movie...massive massive power up, possibly in line with SSj2 even...but obviously he never uses it in canon so it was sorta silly. Would be quite an epic power up though surprised Toriyama didn't steal it

Yeah, it's almost as if they are content with just sticking with their generic formulatic movies. It doesn't seem like they are making an effort to make them any good. DragonBall Z Movie 13 was great, though. The thing about how to defeat the villains in shounen movies, especially DragonBall, is that Toei unless A.T helps them can't do a transformation or anything, like in the series. If they did it most likely wouldn't come up in the series anyways, unless A.T worked with them. They have to stick to moves like the spirit-bomb which isn't based on the user's strength or other powers-up that don't make much sense. The one time, they did have the opportunity in the Lord Slug movie they f***ed it up, l0l. Also I heard the last 2 One-Piece movies have been great, and are much better than any of the other movies. That's probably because Eiichiro Oda helped and worked on those movie with them. I also believe they fit in canon, even though I'm not sure about that. I haven't seen them, just heard about them.
