Goku's mind-reading ability

What are your thoughts? And why did Goku ignore him?

Clearin's post from awhile back

Mind reading is an actual ability in Dragon ball. Roshi used it on Nam long ago, and his was a superior version since he didn't need to be touching the targets forehead.

Krillin does ask how he did it:

Chapter: 279 (DBZ 85), P10.7
Context: after Goku reads his mind
Kuririn: “W-when did you get that kind of ability…!?”

But Goku completely ignores him.
The same kind of thing happens later when Krillin asks where baby Trunks' tail was, and Bulma ignores him. It seems Toriyama likes to point out these important things, but doesn't have answers for them himself.

I felt that it was an underutilised technique that came and went because Toriyama needed a quick and easy way of catching Goku up with the latest information without spending pages worth for exposition. There's no viable explanation as to how he learned it. Jackie Chun was capable of reading Nam's mind, which he attributed to his legendary status as a martial artist. Ironically, his mind-reading ability seems to be further along compared to Goku's when he used it without having to place a hand on Nam's head. Perhaps it was gained through intense meditation? Martial artists in DBZ have been shown to discipline their mind as well as their body.

It might have been of some use to Trunks if he allowed Goku to just read his mind instead of openly explaining things and running the risk of having one of the others eavesdrop.

As for why Goku ignored Krillin - he already learned what he needed to and so decided to redirect his attention towards the issue at hand. He did this back during the Saiyan arc when Krillin tried to reason with him that Nappa was too powerful to fight.

All of the above are facts. But Goku was using Telepathy with Gohan too, so he probably refined it on his trip to Namek. For some reason I've noticed that Pan can use telepathy too. Though it was only to communicate with Goku. Piccolo and Gohan use it a lot too. Kinda makes you wonder who's really psychic and who's just picking up the mental phone so to speak.

Everybody in the main cast could communicate telepathically. It's not unique.

True. That ability was indeed utilized when it was needed. Maybe it's like flying; perhaps it's an ability that a skillful warrior can learn easily by watching or practicing.
