What's your opinion on all the new material?
Do you think it's good for the series?
Do you think it's too much milking?

Personally, I like some things and I also dislike plenty.
But I see it all as side-stories. I don't compare them to the classic 20 year old manga series.
But I can see it as a way of bringing Dragon Ball back for the fans, regardless of plot or story.
We also have plenty of new things to come with DBSuper, so I have an open mind.

What's your opinion?

Oh I'm fine with the new material. I actually love the whole trilo... Well Saga I suppose now isn't it? I do fear ita going to be a little oversaturated and the continuity is a little bogged down. Honestly I think the whole series is overdue for an Ultimate Style Reboot

I've been loving this new stuff. Of course it has problems, but so does all of Dragon Ball.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

I want to say I hate it, but I'm glad that it's still alive and still growing. It gives the younger generation sort of an "anchor anime" to latch onto, like we had with the original series. I'm not a huge fan of the new movies (especially not the 2008 OVA or Episode of Bardock), but they've led to the new series, and I'm at least a little grateful for that.

As long as Super doesn't turn into a repeat of GT, we should be okay.

I don't see any problem with the new material. Plots has always in the series of dragonball world.

we only had 1 episode, its just the opening for a series we all already know. its basically just a wake-up call after 20 years of sleep. soon things will get started.

and its not a side story, its the real thing. and successor of the first dragonball and its a direct sequel. good or bad-that does not matter for its existence.

What exactly do you mean by repeat? What's an example?

Repeat meaning the show had a lot of potential, had great elements, but was poorly executed and is regarded as the ugly duckling of the franchise.

So, even if it's truly terrible, you'll still love it simply for existing? Simply because it's Dragon Ball? I don't think that's a very healthy view of art or entertainment.

I don't think they're milking it, but I don't think it's good for the series. I think it's much too late for someone with such an embarrassingly poor memory to be attempting to pick it up again. I don't like that this is strictly canon, and everyone championing it as such. Wasn't Dragon Ball Online canon? Wasn't the latest three films canon? I've even heard Xenoverse be considered canon. Coupled with GT---who's legitimacy no longer seems absurd---it's hard to care about the work the creator is supposedly fully involved in - this time.

I question Toriyama's level of involvement, as every time, since GT, he seems to be "designing all the characters and writing the entire plot"; but, it seems, only to hand it over to someone else to work with and actualise. Until Toriyama is as truly involved as he was with the original manga---which will never happen---I don't think people should care about this anymore than the GT that they loathe. Yet they do.

I've no objections to other people enjoying the show---how could I?---but I do think it a shame that it shall hold more significance over the arguably better written---going by the latest three films---GT. That Toriyama also contributed to in ways, that I do not personally like, either. I do think that Beerus and Whis are very good characters that I welcome. Alternate versions? Worse than fan-fiction writers - that could only be made worse by the seemingly desired bad-guys-of-the-good-guys making an appearance.

Golden Freeza and Saiyan gods are terribly low ideas.

Pyrus- Ooh. I getcha, and I agree.

And, I honestly don't mind anything Super throws at us, as long as it's executed properly. Any story, plot, set of characters, etc can be good, they just gotta do it right.

Because of all the branching out that Dragon Ball has gone and is still going through, it's a pretty applicable idea to assort Dragon Ball into however you want.
In other words, because all of these complicated crossroads that Dragon Ball has gone through (BoG, FnF, DBSuper, DBMinus etc.), it's pretty safe to consider "canon" whatever you want to consider "canon", because the definition of what is "canon" and what isn't in the series has become completely undetermined and "unsteady".
This is because:
1) Original manga was 20 years ago,
2) The creator, in my opinion, is not in the same "thinking environment" as he was 20 years ago (The way he approached the series was different than how he does now). He also forgets.
3) The anime took over the manga creating fillers, movies, and new series (Super), which also affects the way Toriyama percieves Dragon Ball.

So, this is all chaos for someone trying to pick the "cannons' from the "non-canons".
It's best to see Dragon Ball the way you want to see it, have your own "canon".
For example, my "canon" is the manga, some fillers and movies along with BoG and I'm excluding DBMinus, FnF and Super if it plays out badly for me.
This is a nice way to enjoy it!

i dont know why do you assume love or hate connects with canon or non-canon.

if i love it, i'll watch it. if i hate it, i probably wont.
but its still canon exactly like DB and DBZ.
----------

Toriyama never touched GT, everything in it was made by the Toei Animation. plot AND character design. even goku's design.

all movies except for the last two were made by Toei Animation with Akira Toriyama character design.
Toriyama had higher influence only on the last 2 movies, the specials and online game.
the manga he had almost full influence (business side makes artists do stuff).
the anime was made by Toei Animation with his taking part, but the production company do the final decisions.

Super is Dragonball, the third series. just like before and every other anime, it WILL have annoying long fillers. it is Canon (except for fillers stuff).
