Just saw nearly half the first episode. Stopped because there weren't any subs so I was getting annoyed I couldn't understand

Man...beerus is strong as f***...like...wow...
Spoiler: click to toggle

Some differences from the manga chapter. Like when goten saves the tractor and goten. Goten doesn't fall out of the tractor. He's still in the seat. Goku flies the tractor back up and sets it down instead of throwing it down

We didn't see any of the mental training goku had. We didn't see him fighting kid buu cell and Frieza

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Pretty sure that would have been a technique from Beerus not raw strength, not that it wasn't impressive.

Good first episode, lotta nostalgia feels.

Just don't like what they've done with characters like Goten and Trunks really Goten looks at best 5 years old.

Love how Goku had him driving the tractor, still a responsible parent I see...

I get why Goten is so dumb, being so like Goku and all...but why is Trunks the same? You'd think with a genius mother and a decently intelligent father he wouldn't be as big an idiot as Goten

Anyway yeah good start, not fantastic but it is just setting up shizz so can't blame it for that.

Main things I want:

Goten, Trunks and by extension Gotenks to be relevant
Same with Buu
Gohan to be relevant also

At least until the God forms are introduced.

Also never thought Goku would accept that money and never thought Chi-Chi would let him go :o_O: that was weird

They were relaxed and not giving it their all. They really did not want to give that snake a stomachache, seriously. They were being considerate and kind-hearted, as much as possible. Of course a snake would take a foot from a given inch.

Freeza >>> giant snake.

Beerus at his finest. Wrecking some planet for no reason at all. LOVE IT!

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

Oh look, Beerus is MFTL, who knew?
On a serious note, this is obvious and everybody except the downplayers knows it.
So yes guys, it is confirmed: Beerus is faster than Naruto!!111!!111!!

I pray to the heavens that I'm posting in the right section.

I watched the first episode on sunday but I'm only now getting around to commenting it here with you guys. I liked it, it was a bit on the boring side but I do understand they need to set up the plot and start things a bit slower to get us all into the groove of things again.

I love Beerus too. But I hope they don't turn him into a villain on the series. I loved the way his role played out in the movie, he was not a villain, but rather an antagonist. I thought Goku's respect for him was what made Beerus so interesting as a character. It made him less obvious in a way.

Seeing Hercule show his respect and consideration for Goku was pretty sweet, btw. Definitely a highlight in the premiere.

Gohan and Videl are officially the most boring characters ever. Seriously, what are they doing to them? They've lost all their edge by now. I'm sure we'll see Gohan fighting again because it's Gohan and saiyans rule and herp derp le boopi le beep boop. But they were completely dull in the first ep and it's a shame.

Vegeta not appearing at all in the premiere was a bit of a d*** move, though I have to admit I found it kinda funny. The next episode will definitely be all about Vegeta to make up for that though.

Personally I love the Gohan and Videl relationship. It's just so authentic, and doesn't feel forced at all like a lot of Dragon Ball relationships.

I liked the episode itself. It has good character interaction, animation and silly little gags like Roshi.

It was a pretty "fillerish" first episode though, especially since they removed the Super Saiyan God talk from Beerus' segment, so basically you could remove this entire episode and the plot would be unaffected. Not that makes it a bad episode, it just seems like a weird way to kick off.

They couldn't make them more cookie-cutter if they tried though. I found them both painfully dull, but hopefully that changes over the course of the series. If it doesn't change I hope they can just sit in the background and like bake cakes together, or do the laundry together as a happy couple, you know. :p

Those were definitely my thoughts as well, this episode was completely filler and that's a strange way to kick off a much anticipated new DBZ series. I think they had to make it that way just to have enough time to sorta introduce the characters all over again and appeal to new viewers and people who weren't die-hard fans of DBZ before but might be tuning in to this new series just out of curiosity or something.

"I am the bone of my sword."

As already mentioned but this was such a fillerific episode. I don't want to call it bad but I certain am not going to call it good. I would even go as far as to call it mediocre to be honest.

It's the first episode so I'm not expecting some grand action battle scene or anything and there's no problem with just having some calm, collective moments to start the series off. But there was absolute no focus in this episode. One moment Goten and Goku or doing something, then Goten and Trunks are having their issue, then its over to Beerus, then we're over at Mr. Satan doing his thing, here's some money Goku, oh no planet's are being destroyed!

I mean why not just have the episode focus on Goten and Trunks' adventure in finding Videl her water and the antics they have to go through. Then at the end of the episode you can build off on Beerus doing his thing and get the plot rolling along. To me, there didn't seem to be any focus in thsi episode, just a bunch of filler happening all at once.

I'll be perfectly honest, I did not care for the episode. I thought it quirky and stuff and it would've been fine as a in between episode to lighten the mood, but this was the first episode. The first episode should get you hooked, waiting diligently for the next episode to arrive. You know what they say, a cover is worth a thousand words. Well the first episode of an anime is worth a thousand views.

It's the first episode so I can only complain so much here. I'm surprised they used old footage for the battle with Boo though. I mean you couldn't animate just some new scenes or something? Call it nitpicking if you like but if your going to make a 100 episode new series you couldn't literally just add a few new animation scenes of that fight?

And wow Beerus, problems much? At least in the manga versions the guys were trying to poison him. I can never tell which direction Beerus is supposed to be in. The movie made him out to be sort of a necessary evil who had some pride and honor to himself. He had some issues but he at least tried to control himself for the most part.

This Beerus is just an a*****. Your food was too greasy you blow up half of the planet. So remember kids, if you try to poison Beerus, you get your entire planet blown up, but if your food is just greasy you only get half of it destroyed. It's a fair compromise in the end.

In the end, I'd give the episode 6/10. It's average in the end and nothing special but hey, it could definitely be worse...and it could definitely as I've said have been far better.

This is the first time we ever see Goku and Goten really interacting. He acts like a reckless older brother to him kinda like his relationship with Gohan was implied to be except not nearly as close.

I didn't notice this at first but Mr. Satan's filler disciples make a cameo.

Like someone else mentioned Videl is like a totally different character now (that tomboy streak is gone) but unlike many others I don't really think it's random. I mean, meeting Gohan probably brought out her feminine side and her aspirations as a fighter were heavily implied to be cuz of her father in the first place. Maybe after realizing his greatest accomplishment was actually a lie and being painfully outclassed by Goku and friends, she decided to leave things to the Super Warriors.

It's kinda strange Goten and Trunks struggled to take down a giant snake (with eyebrows) when Goku at the beginning of the series was one-shotting wild animals several times his size. I know they may not have Goku's experience but DB's repeatedly proven whatever level of experience doesn't mean s*** when the gap difference is colossal.

It's disappointing Vegeta never appears once in the entire thing... considering Bulma even appeared briefly in the episode though it was only a flashback. He was only referenced once when Goku compared him to a stump but at least the following episode is revolved around him.

Also didn't really like Chi-Chi's portrayal, but I guess I should be used it by now. Her chasing out Roshi (even though his appearance was a bit random) was kinda funny, I suppose...

Overall, this episode isn't bad but like someone else said it's very much like a self-contained filler episode. Nothing particularly interesting or of any real importance happens.
